You might find it better to breed your own feed. Finding rats is pretty hard these days and there are never a stead supply.
As for snakes what are you looking for?

Depends how many snakes you have or plan to get. If I had 1 snake I would buy my feeders, but with several I would deffinatly breed (And I am). Check out the food for thought forums. There is a wealth of info there.

I'm actually interested in just feeders (mice and rats) but if I can't find a breeder through here, I'm hoping someone who breeds snakes can guide me to someone who breeds feeders. I have no interest in breeding mice.

How many feeder mice are you looking for? A friend and I are looking into have a small amount (less than 500) shipped to my place in Van. Drop me a PM or e-mail to discuss this, assuming you don't need them within the next two weeks.

If there's anyone local who's like to split the cost of bulk shipping, I'm DEFINITELY in for that.
Jason: I'm good until the first week or two of March. I have 7 left, but I oopsed and bought rat pinks and they're too small for my ball (and he's small as it is). And since both the rats and him are small, I'm doing 4-5 day feedings instead of 7 - you do the math. I asked for the equivilant size to mouse hoppers and that's what I got.
I DO have someone somewhat local (Abbotsford), but she can't seem to get my orders together. I'm giving her another chance to get my next one done BUT...
This group order thing sounds fantastic though. If you guys want to order more than needed, I have NO problems grabbing your leftovers.
Like I said, I dont know how many of what to order right now because I don't know when they'll be moving up to the next size.
Are rats really that hard to find? Maybe I should stick with mice for my ball? (I need the mice for my corn, but wanted to feed rats for the ball) Suggestions?

If you don't need to feed live, just order a bunch of frozen. It doesn't sound like frozen is a problem for you though since if the person who you're getting your supply from now is who I think it is, you're already getting frozen anyway so definitely consider ordering.
Otherwise, you'll either have to breed your own or pay $4-5 each for them. I'm breeding my own right now, but I'm ending up spending more time taking care of the rats than the snakes. I'm already using lab cages which are pretty easy to deal with, but it still takes a while to clean out all 5 of them every 3 days. If you only have a few snakes though, you might be able to get away with only having 1 or 2 cages. The problem then is having rats at the right size for your snakes when you're producing so few. If your snakes are big enough to take adult rats though, that's not so much of a problem... just have one breeding cage and one growing cage.

Its from Air Canada Cargo, so they have no idea how much it costs until they weigh the box and put it on the plane. If I were to buy 500-700 rats of variou sizes, it usually costs me $70-$90 in freight.

I live in Kelowna and am also dealing with a rodent shortage. Am breeding rabbits, but I can't find any female rats to start a colony. Please let me know if you hear of anyone in the interior breeding rats or mice.
Tanks Dave...
