hello
hello all
new to the board but not lizards. 12 years ago i had my first mammal and dismantled the lizard tank.
i had a chinese water dragon a few anols a few other lizards and a few tree frogs in a 55 gallon tank, with growing grass, trees, plants and a waterfall/pond for the water dragon.
my mammals are now 12 and 9 and i got the bug again to set up a tank.
i went to a local store today and i cannot believe what they now have for lizards.
when i was doing it i made most of the stuff they now sell.
back then i also didnt have the internet for finding out more about this great hobby
this should be even better this time

Cool, I should be getting Chinese Cave geckos and some Tokay geckos fairly soon. I use mainly 27 gal long tanks (36"x12"x15") but I think you need higher tanks for the chameleon and anole and much larger tanks for the Skink and water dragon. I think a 60 or 70 gal would be good for either the skink and waterdragon. Maybe the new Exo-terra tanks might interest you for the anoles?

As for the chameleon, I think you need a more netting style tank like a flexarium or along those lines. Just my two cents. Thought I'd give you something to look at I'm sure there are way more things to consider for each species.

I'm sure if you post up a request for caresheets you will get a few responses and if they are anything like me you can get extensive caregiving ideas. Lots of people on this forum have great ideas and can help alot. Glad to help a fellow lizard fan! I am using the Exo-terra 18"x18"x24" myself for Tokays. It's almost setup, so as soon as it is I am getting them. If your anything like me this is killing me!! LOL I have to wait till stores get restocked with heating pads and then I can get my Tokays

Oh contact your local petstore for pricing, I'm in Canada and they are $109.99 for the largest size, so that should be roughly about 60 to 70 for you (I think)

i had a fish tank that got a disease and everything in it died in amatter of 48 hours.
i was never good at fish but i did it for the kids. i was very disappointed in the senerio but it happens.
so my wife kewpt asking me what are you going to do with the tank...i really didnt relish the idea of more fish, they are kinda boring in comaprison to lizards.
i happened into a petshop today and bought home some full spectrum bulds...the wife is very excited at the prospect of lizards, she enjoyed the tank almost as much as i did.
i am going to take my time and research a bit this time, i didnt have the internet for help last time ,i basically just winged it from my own knowledge.
the thing that bugs me is i am not in a metroploitan area anymore , we dont have "specialty " shops.
petsmart is not my idea of a lizard store

Yea most petstores know very very basics, but they are good for getting your crickets/mealworms/waxworms/kingworms/superworms/butterworms/silkworms/pinky mice
If you like check out this site:
http://www.gonebuggy.com/insects.html
it has a nice breakdown of food values of feeder bugs, might help you eventually. Check into how much the lizard you want eats before you buy one and make sure you are ok with the costs of feeding/mainanence. Some lizards require a calcium suppliments (and some might have other vitamin requirements) plus some require humidity levels that are higher too, so a moisture holding substrate may be reqiured.
