up sizeing. how do you do it...

for thoes of you that dont have the choice to upsize your room but are constantly upsizeing your collection, how do you do it.. what do you get rid of... specificaly to thoes that still have to sleep in there room..

ive found myself getting rid of dressers to build a cham cage and shelf for my other lizards.. now ive found myself moving things aound to add a table and adding a shelf to the shelf/ cham cage, blocking off 1/2 my closet.. NOW im even contimplating getting a smaller bed to make more room for more in the future... and i dont have the luxury of putting one in the living room... i also dont hve the luxury of a large rack... the only bonus that i have is i do have room for a small shelving unit.. maybe fit 3 10 gal one on top of another.. maybe a unit like thoes rubbermaid drawers at walmart.. about that size..

my moms even giving me suggestions on putting things ( dvd's) out into the living room to make more room and emptying out my closet for some lizards ( she even hates them).. she might even give me my sises room to put my lizards in... lol

so what does everyone do.. what sacrifices have you made... sorry for the long post..

Haha you all remind me much of myself. Hell I even had moved my bed out into the hallway to make room. Added tables to set tanks on, put on in the closet on top of a radio, added shelving units from Home Depot. (Those are the way to go they're like big enough to put 3 ten gallons on width wise, or one 20 gallon the long way, and there's up to 5 shelves I only used 4 because of the height of my room and took the 5th else where for another tank lol.

You guys think we're addicted???

Like you my room stays the same but the collection doesn't. I've learned to stack cages and build racks. You have to get creative. The single best thing I did to help me make the most of my space was start stacking cages.

This is a pic of one corner of my snake room taken in April 2002,

This is the same corner in April of 2004,

Cheers,
Trevor

Geez, all I've had to do is get new shelves Rubbermaids are great because they're so stackable... All I need is someone to build me a hatchling rack now. (*poke poke* ... Matt ) I've still got some space, but I think my sister's being selfish, hogging her bedroom and all...

hey heather,
I have the same problem!!

i am a university student, I breed cresties (as you and your sister already know) and hopefully more in the future.
last week I spent 3 days organizing my room so that I could fit the new adult sized cham cage. filing cabinet is in the closet, INSIDE a 60 gallon tank to save space!!!
I got one of those $30 shelf units from canadian tire that are adjustable. I had 8 tanks on it at one point, stacked up and down and side by side. problem is my cat discovered she could climb the rack and tends to sit on the top cage with her back wedged against the ceiling!!!
good fun, sounds like there are a lot of us with the space issue.
as soon as I graduate (1 more year of post grad) I will be able to afford a house and then.....a herp room!
Adam

id love to stack... but before i do that ill be building a rack system... and putting them in there.. se my room still has to look orginised and seeing as i dont have acess to heat tape i cant really stack unless i use $40 heat pad per tank... so its not to easy..

but hearing some of these things from you guys are making me think... i mught clean out my closet put my dresser in there and add a large rack system....

but have one more question too add on.. what about plugs... what do you do.. i use 4 cords just for my cham cage, then 2 for my leos, 1 for my banded, soon to be 1 for cresties, and 2 for beardie.. not including my space heater, humidifer, clock, tv, and soon to be 2 incubators.. so what do you do..

I get those 6-plug outlet plugs that go into the regular 2-plug outlets. You can get 'em anywhere. PetSmart also has 3-plug ones shaped like little lizards wearing sunglasses, and their eyes light up when you plug it in Powerbars are another option. I have one of those at another corner of my room, and it's great because all of my lights can turn off and on with the flip of a switch.

Depends on what you'r running. heat pads (exoterra anyway) are low wattage. You could run a bunch off one outlet, especially if you have them dimmed. Basking bulbs would be another story. I wouldn't run 6 150watt basking lights off a single outlet.

HaHaHa......I am the worst when it comes to "up sizing"....I started with my basement ..then 1/4 of my garage ..now 1/2 a doublecar garage...and I am trying to delicately build a Alligator enclosure10x6ft(1/2 the laundry room) so that my wife does'nt notice too much..lol
