down on my luck

I have been keeping herps for 9 years and today is the first time I have ever asked myself why. Today I woke up to find my U. Lineatus ( the olny male i had) dead. 2 of my 7 pictus babies have also died , within the last week. Im not no newbie with wrong incubation temps, It just seems like their is a force out their that doesnt want me to see me succeed. I have 4 uroplatus lineatus females, and no male to offer to them. I know im rambling on, It just seems like someone is kicking me while im down.
I feel like Im locked in a small cage and everyone is laughing at me. Sorry for rambling, One of my huge projects just got demolished and i need to vent.
Our hobby, herpotoligy(sp) can be the most rewarding hobby anyone can have, Im just SO frustrated and you guys are the olny people I know I can vent to. I just feel so helpless, I want to screem, but their is no use.
I have invested sooooooo much money and time to my uroplatus project it just makes me feel like a failure.
I am soooo mad, but i have been to this point and I just need to keep on truckin' lol/ I geuss All i can do is just keep on keepin on. I cant give u
Srp this hobby, I know lots of you out their know my frustration.
Sorry I just needed to vent and the people on this site are the olny ones I can vent to.

Hey man,
Lighten up on yourself. You'll make yerself sick convincing yourself you're a failure! Alot of things can happen to cause you unsuccess. Not all of it will be your fault. I lost my male Striped Boa due to ignorance on my behalf. Learn and move on. I dont use substrate that they can injest any more. My friend lost A beuty snow boa, simply by housing it with a Ball Python. The ball had some disease that he can live with for ever, and it kills boas.
Now he wont put the two types together again.
Dont kick yourself. Find out what is going wrong, (regardless if its your fault), and learn from it, fix it, and move on.

Sorry to hear about you losing your male and the pictus babies Concept.. But one thing I do know about breeding any animal in captivity. There are definitely no guarentees and even the experts can't save them all. Just look at that baby elephant the Calgary Zoo lost several weeks ago. If a world class zoolological society can't make it work every time there's no shame at all in losing an animal when you know you did you best to provide for them properly.

Weak animals happen in captive collections just as they do in the wild.

If I had a male uroplatus lineatus i'd help you out but unfortunately i'm a Leo guy But who knows.. they're really cool looking so maybe i'll have a look see in the new year. In the meantime, keep at it. I know we could really use the variety in the local herp scene and if you ever need to chat i'm close enough by to buy a round at the pub.

Cheers,

Before anyone starts breeding reptiles they should have it FIRM in their head that they have 50/50 chance of failing. It's not like sports where pratice makes perfect. You can never ever make animals do what you want and you can never plan for what happens.

Sorry your having a bad time, but it's a huge part of keeping reptiles.

Have a good christmas.

Sorry to hear about the losses Concept, but when you do finally get those babies it will feel fantastic. Keep your head up, it'll work out eventually.
