Question size of colombian common boas.

Hi,
I have recently bought a common boa and was wondering the size of a male colombian common boa.
I have been doing LOTS of research but it is always different.
It is about 14" long and the pet store had been feeding it 2 fuzzies twice a week(4 total a week).
Should i feed it this much this often or could this cause it to grow very large and possibly not be in as good condition as it ought to be.if i shouldn't could you advise how much it should be fed and how often?
Can you also please tell me what the average size a male colombian common boa can grow and the BIGGEST size recorded(i do not want a big one!!!)?
Thanks.:w

It would have helped if u found out how big the snake gets before u bought it. Males usually stay between 6-8 feet. I think u should start feeding rat pups, 1 a week should be fine. Rats are more nutritious that mice. Do not handle the snake for 48 hours after it eats.

You can expect a male Colombian to get anywhere from probably 5 to 7 feet, and stay fairly slim, compared to a female anyway.

4 fuzzies a week is a bit much in my opinion, 2 a week is fine. I would even move your guy up to 1 hopper a week instead of 2 fuzzies. Then when he gets a little bigger, move him onto rat pups.

Alot of people will prob say that feeding 2 prey items twice a week is fine, but to me that is over doing it. The snake needs time to digest before being fed again, and if it doesnt it could possibly cause a regurge which just happened to me, and it is not a nice thing to see or smell. Plus it is very hard on the snake.

I go by 1 prey item per week now, and my snakes are growing nicely, not to fast not to slow.

A young boa should be fed once every 7 to 10 days. They do not need to be fed more than this. In fact it can do them harm. A over fed boa will have a shorter life and have more health problems.
A adult male colombian boa will usally top out at around 6 ft.

What I have found, at least with my BRB, is that smaller food items are better. This is a snake that was neglected and nearly starved to death and every time I try to push a larger food item I get a regurge. Right now at 5 1/2 feet she is on a single fuzzy rat per week injected with Benebac. Are all boas alike in that you wouldnt feed them the prey size of a ball python? Or is this just with BRBs?

Unless you severely starve a snake, food will not have much of an impact on the final size of your snake. It will generally have more of an influence on the rate of growth (to an extent). It's all in the genes, as with us. Feeding your snake a lot will only make your grow at an unhealthy rate, not be larger than it would if fed modestly.

While males are generally at the smaller end, that isn't by any means the rule. I've seen many males finish up the same size as females. That being said I haven't heard of any females exceeding the 10' mark (and this is quite uncommon). 6-7 feet seems to be the most common sizes males reach.
