Substrate question

Just a quick question (hope i put this in the right forum)

but im curious to know wich wood shavings are NOT good to be used with snakes...

Any coniforous tree ( i dont think i spelled that right) really, specially Cedar, Spruce and even Pine. From what i read and smell anyway....Lucas

well there are good evergreem species, i wouldnt use conifers tho. personallyi hate firs. tehy got this irritating crap in theire bark/cambium (sp? right word even?) that is a pain in the arse. id imagine it would drive anskes mad as well.

Softwoods, apple, and walnut. Softwoods all contain levels of phenol which can be harmful, some more than others. Walnut contains juglone. There's something about apple wood as well, but I cannot remember.

Many keepers recommend usnig shredded Aspen. I have tried a number of things, and it has worked best for myself and others. It is reasonably priced as well, and can be found at Wal-Mart.
