I have a pair that might produce some late next year, but at the moment I can't think of any off hand. Check the classifieds, I think I saw some on there not long ago. Good luck!

They vary in price from around $100 - $200 each depending on the breeder. Big thing to watch out for is "bug eyes". You do not want to aquire ones if they are "bug eyed" & this is a common flaw for this species. I too breed them & will have them available next year & still some this year. Pat Dring of Victoria, BC also breeds them every year too I beleive & I would recomend buying stock from at least 2 sources if you intend on breeding them in the future. Good to know you also work with them Dave as I only have the one pair so mine are all siblings. I think Katt (these forums) maybe producing some here before long also & Nett does too. Mark

I would probably buy one next year. This year I'm getting a Ball Python and next year I'll get one. I was just wondering how much they were and they don't seem too expensive.

I usually see them priced between $100-150, less if they are bug-eyed. Like Mark said, Pat Dring has them, and I remember someone at the Reptile Expo who was solely breeding them. If I can find her business card, I will post her contact info here. Reptilia had some for sale a few months ago, you can call them up for availability. Also, I think Port Credit Pets would have some available or be able to obtain them for you.

Trevor, mine try to strike everytime I clean their cages or change their water, but are fairly docile once taken out of their cage.

It always disturbs me when price is the first question asked. You did not even ask about care until you found out that they were so cheap. Leuc Tx Rats are one of the most inbred snakes with the most obvious gentic deformities. If you REALLY want one, then don't worry about price and get an offspring that is born from two unrelated hets from a reputable breeder and pay a bit more.

Denise Loving is her name. Or Dee as we used to call her. I have some of her stock.

Pat Dring sold his stock.

Annette still breeds hers I believe.

Mark IsBell (gonesnakee) has great stock, (course I sold him he male, hehehe).

And SCALES Zoo has a pair who should hopefully breed next year.

Trevor, yes,they are nippy, they need lots of handling to tame down.

"What the cost is?" wasn't my first question. "Where to get it?" was. Which I think I posted another thread somewhere. (Probably after this thread because I got tired of searching on google again and I thought there might be some good breeders on this forum)

The reason I have another thread asking how to take care of it posted after this one is because I was searching for care sheets while I made this thread and I couldn't find any. I thought I should ask you guys to see if you knew any good ones. (Sometimes you find ones that some one made up and is completely wrong)

I was only asking the price so I knew how much to save up for next year, which is when I am going to get it. I already know I should buy from an experienced breeder and pay more than what the pet stores sell them at to make sure it's healthy.

That doesn't mean "Oh, it's cheap, I'll buy it." I meant that it wasn't that expensive and that it wouldn't take me too long to save up for it.

Since you are from Ontario, BC might not be an option to get one (unless you are willing to pay 100$ for shipping).

I know someone in Montreal who bred some this year, clean ones, very white and not a single sign of bug eyes which is common for this species. As for their temperment, well it's a case by case one, some will be nervous, musk or even bite, while others can be calm. I find they are still a little more nervous than cornsnakes.

Very attentive snakes. Bitey as ***** when babies. Expect to be tagged lots adapting one to handling. Had a fellow checking out my last pair yesterday & he said he never saw one snake bite so many times ever LOL. Of course he was refering to the little girl that tagged me approx 20 times in 5 minutes LOL I woke her up & she wasn't very happy LOL I've been bit by ones not even out of the egg yet. Super defensive when little & very aware of everything. They don't hesitate to sit & hiss with their mouths wide open & lots of tailshaking. As they age they calm down majorly & are more apt to be flighty than bitey. Everyone loves the way they look but most are intimidated by their antics, they shouldn't be. More often than not its all for show & if you let them "get away with it" they will always be bitey. Take the tags while they are young as eventually they realize you are no threat & their biting gets them no where. These guys are always a highlight of daily chores & even "Yolk" is pretty mellow nowadays LOL If Cornsnakes have become boringly docile to you a baby Ratsnake will perk your life right up! As babies they seem to think they are 1/2 Carpet Python, 1/2 rattlesnake. Mark

On another note I too totally agree with BWS as we all know too well what he is refering too.

ever hear the saying "well you bought a rat snake" There all biters the younger the worse they are. I find to many probs with this type of rat snake bug eyes, some cases so severe not able to sell the snake! I have 2 that i can not sell and if i did i would want 20 bucks max! i have 1 i would sell for 250$ it all depends on the snake i guess. Also price plays a role in selling and no one will pay 250$ for a rat snake! i have some at 100$ 150$ and 200$ but i can't gaurentee you one next YEAR lol nice to see an interest in this much undesirable snake
