I HAVE A VEILED AND HE DOSEN'T HAVE THE APPITITE HE USED TO HAVE. HE'S NOT EATING LIKE HE WAS ????????

are you giving a varity? how old is he? are you offering any veggies? if he has just recently stopped growing he may be eating less. is he warm enough... male or female.

DUE TO MY COMPUTER CRASHING I WASN'T ABLE TO WRITE. I WILL START FROM THE BEGINNING........BRUTUS, A VEILED CHAMELEON I FOUND IN SEPTEMBER IS ACTING STRANGE AND HE IS CAUSING ME ALOT OF STRESS BECAUSE I LOVE HIM. AFTER I RESCUED HIM, I BOUGHT THE PROPER HOUSING AND GAVE HIM ALOT OF TLC. HE EAGERLY CONSUMED WAXWORMS,MEALWORMS, CRICKETS, MUSTARD GREENS AND BROCCOLI. ONE MORNING I DISCOVERED A SWOLLEN EYE HE DEVELOPED OVERNIGHT. HE WAS VET-CHECKED AND GIVEN A SERIES OF ANTIBIOTICS. UNFORTUNATELY HIS EYE WAS STILL SWOLLEN. ON THE SECOND VISIT TO VET A BLOOD TEST SHOWED BRUTUS WAS IN EXCELLENT HEALTH. THE VET SAID BRUTUS WOULD HAVE TO LIVE WITH HIS SWOLLEN EYE. HE ALSO RECOMMENDED BUTTERWORMS. BRUTUS LOVED BUTTERWORMS!!!!!!! I WAS SO HAPPY HE WAS HEALTHY AND HAD A VERY GOOD APPETITE. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO HE LOST HIS HEALTHY APPETITE. HE HAS TOTALLY REFUSED CRICKETS ,WAXWORMS, MEALWORMS AND GREENS BUT WILL EAT ONE OR TWO BUTTERWORMS A DAY. HIS EYE IS BIGGER THAN BEFORE AND HE SCRATHES IT ON A LIMB OR WITH HIS BACK CLAW. THE PET STORE RECOMMENDED SALINE SOLUTION ONCE A DAY BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT IS STILL SWOLLEN. HE HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATING SOME UNUSAL BEHAVIOR SUCH AS PACING AND CLIMBING TO THE BOTTOM AND BACK UP, BOTTOM AND BACK UP ETC. PLEASE LOOK AT PICS........ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

do you have a ficus tree in the enclosure? If so that might be a reason why its swollen. The sap could have caused the problem. I think its having a break down, not seeing with his other eye; this is just what i think. A picture would be nice, but i suggest mist a lot with warm water. When it comes to th eye there isnt much people can do

There has to be something wrong with that eye i suggest u get him to a different vet for another opinion.

Hello!

It sounds like you are trying to help your cham and you have definitly been giving him a good diet. I have owned one Vieled Chameleon and he also had health issues from time to time.

I would suggest getting another vet, or simply going back to your current vet with a list of reptile vet's phone numbers and ask you vet to consult one of them as well.

The cham does NOT have to live with a swollen eye. I would also look into what's inside the enclosure right now. What wood do you use? What is the enclosure made from? Are there any sharp points? etc

I WANT TO THANK ALL THAT REPLIED TO MY WIFES POST REGAURDING BRUTIS. MY WIFE IS VERY SICK OVER BRUTIS HAVING A SWOLEN EYE. JUST WANTED TO LET ALL KNOW SHE WILL BE WRIING MORE AS SOON AS WE REPLACE OUR HOME COMPUTER. THANKS BECKYS HUSBAND JAMES.

It doesn't take much for eye problems to occur. Something as simple as the chlorine content in public water supplies can cause problems.
One thing that will not hurt is giving the cham some long warm showers. The added humidity might help loosen what ever is in its eye.
If your not experienced with flushing a chams eye with saline it can be pretty tough. The shower would be much easier as the cham will do all the work. Just make sure the cham is not directly under the spray. Let him/her go under the water on their own. Put a big plant in the shower with half in the spray and the other half in the mist.
