eastern diamond back rattler

I'm doing a project on eastern diamond back rattlesnakes. I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on bite statistics and how many are killed each year by humans. Statics from rattlesnake roundups would be good such as which species are the common victem for such events and in detail descripitions of what happens at these events where they are held and other details concern them.

thanx,

Here is the original page on my site when we were raising money for the Roundup Rescue. The pictures on this page are not mine, so you cannot use them. Of course, most of the pics on this page are from the Sweetwater Roundup, so they are atrox, not adamanteus.

Here is the thread from after the Roundup. Feel free to use any of these images for your project.

I would venture to guess that about 400 Eastern Diamondbacks per roundup would be average in the south. I think that there are 4 left, but i am not certain. That is roughly 1500 snakes per year. But the collection methods not only hurt the diamondbacks, but kill a microhabitat ......... the Gopher Tortoise Burrow. These are home to hundreds of species and the gas they pour down the holes wipes out everything and makes it uninhabitable.

Habitat destruction is still by far the greatest threat to the Eastern Diamondback. Not to mention the hundreds that are run over each year crossing roads.

Just trying to give you some bullet information for your research. Let me know if you have specific questions.
