I also just built a tank. Mine is a little smaller (4 x 2.5 x 2.5). What size snake is going in the cage. Thats what i would bas emy decor on. I have a large hide box and a large water bowl in mine, with wood chip substrate, but might be swithing to newspaper for sanitation reasons. Large snakes don't need much more because most of their time is spent being lazy and layin on the ground.

Sorry i posted twice for some reason. I have a BCI in mine. She is a little over 5ft long. My enclosure wouldn't be the best for you to see then, it is pretty boring. I would put a couple shelves at different levels on there. They like to be at different levels and closer to the heat source somtimes. These shelves will also give them something to hide under that isn't their hide box.

I'll try to get a pic of it anyway though.

Plants will get chewed up by a boa in a matter of hours. Stick to indestructable decor

No, plants don't tend to last long in cages. If the snake doesn't spill them or rip them up they will die anyway assuming your cage doesn't have a sunroof. Wood chips and plastic plants are about as 'natural' as it's going to get if that's what you're after.

I totally disagree with the idea that plants get destroyed...

There are many rugged plants that do very well in cages so long as flourescent light is present.. one that comes to mind is Pothos

Ive had it in my cages for the longest time.. stuff grows like a weed and is pretty much indestructable

Its also awesome for maintaining humidity and general air quality

You can keep pothos with ETBs, or other mainly arboreal species, but i really don't think any ground snake specie would spare the plants... I have artificial plants and they are in pretty bad shape due to my BCI having fun roaming around...

LOL pothos won't stand up to any of the abuse a boa will put it through anymore than it would tolerate us jumping up and down trampling it ourselves It can sort of tolerate the abuse of a neonate or juvie, but that's about it. As bistrobob said, pothos are best left to arboreal species of snake.
