Some information needed.

My wife really wants dart frogs, and there is really the one room, the snake room. Is it safe to keep the dart frogs in the same room? The reason I ask if it's ok is diseases, parasites etc. From frogs to snakes, or visa versa.

The other question.

Are there any good sites that show how to setup an enclosure?
What plants, gravel, dirt, moss etc to use? This will be my first time setting something like this up and I want it to look very nice for her.

The other thing I want to ask, is it possible or are there certain species of dart frogs that can be housed together? Beginner darts.

well, you should quarantine the darts for a significant amount of time before putting in the same room as the snakes. this way, if they have any disease to transmit you will know before anything bad happens. otherwise, so long as they have proper temps and humidity, it is fine to keep them in the snake room, just be extra careful about escapes, cuz if a snake of yours eats a dart, it will most likely die (not to mention the dart).

as for the enclosure, i dont know whether different species can be kept together, but i know that different types of mantellas can be. in my opinion, the best beginner dart is the auratus, as it is more forgiving of husbandry mistakes. i have heard that tincs are also hardy, but i have not kept them. with dart frogs, i find that it is important to maintain a natural light cycle, which is something you should consider when putting them in the snake room. if you have other animals in there who have heat lamps on at night, i would suggest covering the enclosure glass at night. another thing to think about when selecting plants and such, is making sure there are many hides.

wait, now that i think about it, i am pretty sure different dart species can be kept together. basically, i have seen it done by knowledgable people, i just have never done it myself or discussed it with anyone.

You can keep diferent species together, but then you run the risk of inter-species breeding. Personally I would rather keep the species pure, but thats just me.

Honestly... I think a snake room may be a liitle too warm for some dart frogs. What is the ambient temperature in the room? Every snake room I have been in has been in ythe mid 80´s....

I keep a number of dart frogs... my frog room never goes above 77 degrees fahrenheit. Dart frogs get incredibly stressed if housed at tempertaures above 82 fahrenheit for more than a few hours. And rememebr... a dart frog tank is like a little greenhouse... twith all that humidity.. the vivariums are generally a few dgress above the ambient room temperature. IF you want dart frogs... they are the ultimate herp IMO. Why not setup a nice display tank in the living room. They can be housed in enclosures far more visually oriented than a rubbermaid and some care fresh. But... if the temperature situtaion in your snake room permits dart frogs..... (less than 77 ambient degress) go dart frog crazy!!!! As for wquarantining..... there is no need to quarantine darts from going into a snake room. They generally do not share the same parasites... (when have you ever heard of mite infested frogs????).
