screen cages

hey everyone. i have a 5' three year old jungle carpet python in a 55 gallon aquarium with a screen top. i want to get a bigger enclosure, so i'm currently looking around.

building something myself isn't currently feasible, and i don't want another aquarium. my question is: is it safe to keep him in a large all-metal-screen enclosure? they are sold for other reptiles, ie: large lizards and so forth, and some retailers claim that they're good for arboreals, but i am worried nonetheless.

will an all-screen enclosure hurt the snake? also would there be any serious humidity problems compared to the glass aquarium? basil doesn't have any humidity or health problems at all with the aquarium.

any opinions/educated guesses/experience would be great on this matter.

I am no snake expert by any means but I think that the humidity requirements are too high for a screen enclosure too work. You ar ebetter off with a glass enclosure or a wood one. If you can not build one yourself there are many cage builders in the states that are willing to build one for you. Better spending more money on the right cage than getting one that you think will work and having to upgrade it later on

Hope that helps you

Yes, I'd thought of the humidity issue, I'm more concerned with the possibility of hurting Basil.

Further, I don't have the money to have someone else build and ship an enclosure. Screen cages are surprisingly cost-effective.

Thanks very much for your reply!
