weird find in my cham cage
I was watering my pygmy chams today and noticed this little fella running around on the screen. I'm guessing its a brown anole, its tiny about an inch and half long. There must've been an egg in one of the plants I have in there. Guess I'm breeding lizards now that I don't even know I have!! lol

well guys i think meow is right. It is deffinatly not an anole its snout is too short and it head is to wide. Anoles have a long slender head. And I have never seen one with that sort of marking. More of a water dragon or baslisk from the short and wide head. Also the markings are very much like a waterdragon. . The hind legs have really long slender toes as well like a water dragon or a baslisk would.
Thats my guys from a top view. If I could get aside picture of its face I would be able to tell you forsure. I have own both water dragons and anoles, plus also babysat a baslisk.lol.
So a side veiw of the face would help alot.
It is always good to get a pic at every angle you can when trying to identify a specific species. Top, bottom, both sides, base of the tail. ect.

It's a hatchling Brown Anole, Anolis sagrei.

Green and brown anoles and their eggs are often found in plants imported from Florida and a few other southern states where they are found. Even house geckos can pop out of plants imported from down there.
There's no way it would be a water dragon or basilisk. Having their eggs survive the trip would be just short of a miracle. Comparing head and body size and shape doesn't work in this case since it's a hatchling. Body proportions are way out of whack with adults at this stage in their lives.

I agree. It is likely a hatchling brown anole. I had a small anole for over a year that came in a house plant. It was about 2 inches in total length, brown with a white vertebral stripe. It was a full grown female that laid unfertilized eggs every once and a while. I never could ID the exact species.

I knew it had to be species of anole, its way to small to be a baby baslisk. its gobbled down a couple pin head crickets for me already and seems healthy. I'm just glad I found it in there before one of my chams spotted it and had it for lunch. lol
