Chaco golden knee (G. aureostriatum) is a terrestrial, docile tarantula that get pretty large.
If you want an aboreal go for a pink toe. They are cheap and you can handle them, but they are a bit skittish.
Just check out the Grammastola, the avicularia, and the Brachypelma's.
Most of those are good starter Ts.

I only keep tarantulas as far as arachnids go so I will give my opinion on good beginner tarantulas.

In my opinion, two species are particularly mellow and are easy to care for are the Chaco golden knee (grammostola aureostriata) and Pink zebra beauty (Eupalaestrus campestratus).

There are many other species that would make a good beginner tarantula as well. Pretty much anything in the genus grammostola, aphonopelma and brachypelma are good choices. There are a few other ones like the Belize cinnamon (crassicrus lamanai) that come to mind.

Keep in mind that even though a species is labeled as a good beginner species, mellow and tolerates handling. Tarantulas are living creatures and have individual "personalities" and a few are the opposite of what they are known for. The rosy (grammostola rosea) for example are known to be one of the best beginner species as they are quite docile and non-aggressive. But there are a few that will be the opposite and make threat displays, attempt to bite at the slightest things. I have 2 rosies myself, one is textbook mellow and the other non-aggressive but very high strung.

Look up pictures and see which one appeals to you most. Research a few caresheets and go from there, one thing for sure, you have many choices.

a lot of petstores carry rosehairs and pinktoes for no more than $30 and some carry stripeknees as well. our store carries a lot more but those are the staples of any store that carries any t's...
martin @ tarantulas canada is probubly your best bet though. i admit that most petstore people won't tell you much about t's because they don't know much. or even worse, will give you wrong info so they sell the animal. i hate that...

its better to NEVER house multiple tarantulas, they're territorial and most are cannibalistic. the only reason two should be together is for mating and even then its a huge risk.
as for a 33gal, seems a little overkill, tarantulas love small spaces, and pinktoes are aboreal so a 15 gallon tall is more than adequate to house one pinktoe. tarantulas wont use the space unless you get a Birdeater of some sort or an orbweaver (they're not a tarantula, but rather a 'true' spider).
the best first spider in my opinion is a Brazilian Black (Brachypelma Pulchra) or a Chaco Golden Mustard (Grammostola aureostriata). Both aren't known to urticate too much and are more calm than most, even more so than rosehairs or pinktoes. You'll pay a little more but they're really worth it. I just ordered a Chaco from Tarcan and already have a Brazilian (though he's just a sling). Hope that helps.

15 gallon tall? They are perfectly good in a 5 to 10 gallon on its side.

well a 15g tall is waaaay better than a 33gal. lol. i was just trying to make the point to downsize.
"a 15 gallon tall is more than adequate to house one pinktoe"
heck my t's are all kept in those rectangular ferrer roche (sp?) boxes and car model display boxes, same with dragoons.
