Bp as roommates???

Hi there,

I am in the process of making a really nice "coffee-table" style enclosure for my future scally "children".

My measurement are 3' x 3' x 1.5' which is about the area of a 99 gallon tank. I know that this is WAY bigger than 1 adult ball would ever need, so i have to decide:

1. do I keep multiple balls in there (with numerous hide areas)

or

2. divide the space into thirds and keep 3 balls each with their own separate area.

and if No. 2 applies could the separations be plexiglass or would the fact each Ball being able to see the others be harmful.

Thanks guys,

PS i know there are lots more space efficent ways to house my future collection, but I still would like a couple nice enclosures to showcase my prize pythons.

i would suggest that you divide the space and put more than one in there. Snakes are solitary animals, they like to be left alone. Also i suggest that u don't use plexiglass, in case two adjacent ones don't try to strike at each other and hit the plexiglass instead.

....

"Seeing" each other won't be an issue given that Balls don't see very well anyways. The only question is, how will you provide 3 heat gradients in a cage of those dimensions?

it shouldnt be too hard. I am dividing it into thirds making three areas of 3' x 1' x 18" or the size of a 33 gallon tank each.

On 2 third of the enclosure I was thinking of having heat tape (running perpendiclar to the three enclosures. and maybe a couple cage enclosed nite-glo lights on the sides for a little heat and some nice night time effect.

My only concern is the tape. I have never use the heat tape before and am a little worried about a possible fire hazard.

Do the tapes get really hot or do they just get fairly warm.

oh and when i get the planns drawn I will post them.

Thanks

You need a rheostats for your flex watt, I make my own with a rotary dimmer and extension cord from the hardware store. You can buy the pre made if you like tho.

Flexwatt can reach temps above 180f in the right conditions. Thats why you need the rheostat.
