Any one use these heat pads?

I am thinking of using these for my rack, since they are probably more durrable..more expensive but they are csa approved. I'm not sure how big my rack with be across but there's a 6x23pad and a 6x35pad..check it out

Also if I used a zoomed rheostat could I plug at outlet adapter to it for more plugs and would it work?

As for the zoomer rheostat question, I would just avoid using them altogether. For the most part, they don't work. I just use the sliding lamp dimmers. What I do when I want to run several cages off the same dimmer is I plug all the pieces of heat tape in to a power bar and plug the power bar in to the dimmer. If you are running several heat sources off the same dimmer, it is important they are all of the same wattage/size.

Either way, generally the best way to go for heating racks is with heat tape, not pads. I believe you can get approved heat tape up here, it is just under a different name than flexwatt. Some people have had success using heat rope routered in to the bottom as well, but I have never tried this method before.

The ultratherm heat pads on beanfarm, They are on the last page under heating supplies. They are just as flat as flexwatt and come in sizes like 6x23, 6x35

Too expensive, and you can only heat one cage with it. If you were to pick up a decent length of heat tpae, you could heat everything. Also, with most enclosures, 6 inches wide just don't cut it.

But the pads are almost 3 feet long, on a rack wouldn't that heat a whole row of bins? I'm just weary to use flexwatt. I have to experience wiring.

sounds like a solution to me... basicly it's prewired heat tape. it's your dollar. you can save a few bucks with do it your self or have it all nicely done for you. 6" wide should be more then addequate for most racks, i'd even suggest running them up and down the back instead of across the shelves...

Just get some Roof Deicing Cable.
You can get them at Home depot for 25$us for 30 feet.
these are about 150W so basicly, 5W/feet.

I use 2, one for plastic bin in a rack and one in a multilayer enclosure. (3 level of 4 feet)
just need to buy a simple probe thermostat so rubbermaid dont get too hot.

Little, if you're buying heat tape from a supplier, you'll get step by step instructions as to how to wire it, if not, you can ask them to include instructions. It's fairly idiot-proof, I've been wiring it for years....
