Hi all,
I was guna save it untill i got them but had to let my feelings be heard lol I got 1.1 juvenile malaysians coming on tuesday woohoo!! I also got my two new fibreglass viv's coming as well for my adult borneeo's nxt week and i cant wait. My wallet is now completely empty but who cares lol I wont be able to sleep on monday haha, i'll post some pics as soon as i get em, hope everyone is well

Hey,
I am guessing that by Malaysian, you actually mean, Red Bloods, because, there aren't any Malaysians being imported out of Peninsular Malaysia any more, and you really have to have some contact if they are. Your Reds, are more likely Northern Sumatran Red Bloods. Either way good luck with them. - Angel

actually I know of some people that farm malasians, borneos, and sumatrans, and as far as I know they ship them over here.....

Hi there,
The bloke i'm buying them off is pretty geuine and he has told me they are malaysians and he brought them off a close friend who bred them, but i'll post some pics as soon as i get them so you can judge,

Hey everyone,
Got my bloods yesterday and i'm well pleased with them even if they dont turn out to be malaysians. They are very simmilar in colour to Jaime's who posted the ovulation pics. I'll get sum pics as soon as they have settled in a bit.

I do have a question though. How long does it take for a blood to shed and what kind of humidity should their cage to be? It is normaly around 55%-65%

Bloods usually shed just as any other snake around once a month give or take a week. At least in my experience. Humidity can be anywhere from 60% and higher. I keep mine on a mixture of coconut fibre below and shaghnum (sp) moss above. Humidity is around 90%-100% all the time and ive had no problems so far.

Hi, like big V i try to keep mine at 90-100% pretty much all of the time. Did u mean how long does the actual process for them to shed?? (that make sense??) I have found it to be a little longer than my other snakes my borneos seem to be blue for ages, around a week and a half before they shed??

I have heard so many different things on humidity for them, I've heard about 50%-60% (from the N.E.R.D blood python care sheet), 70%-80% and 80%-90% now I'm hearing 90%-100%......so what is it? The rest I've heard from keepers....

I know it might be different in some areas because of how humid it is ALREADY so you might only need a certain amount of humdity in their cages.

So I guess my question is:
How much humditiy are THEY supposed to have?

not how much humidity do you give them?

The bottom line is this - just because the jungles of Malaysia may be around 60% humidity doesn't mean you'll find the blood python hovering around in the air. They are found in marshes, swamps, mud holes, etc. where they have constant contact with moisture. That's why sphagnum moss works so well for them - it's close to their natural microhabitat.

I found when I had my blood on dry substrate with around 60% humidity, it just wasn't cutting it - her belly scales got dry, and she would not leave her water dish. Now that I have her on moist moss, she never soaks, not even before a shed.

I'm looking for a maylasian male to mate to my female sumatran. No luck yet, but I've recieved some possible connections...
We'll see if they pay off.
