Record keeping

Just curious as to what records you all (and especially Martin!) keep on your inverts?

Martin just mentioned that he knew exactly which of his incei females was the mother of his new brood. I was surprised, considering his collection is so large!

For myself, I have a little calender just for the animals I have. I jot down in blue what is fed to the lizards, the snakes in green, and inverts in red. I feed all the spiders at once, and just mark an S on that date. I record if a spider molts in the column at the side. Refusals to eat are not often, and I don't record it. I can just remember which spider did not eat, and then I don't try feeding again until it has molted. Water is always misted, regardless.

So, I'm very curious, what records do other people keep?

D, you will freak out to learn I keep no records at all!LOL

I have no idea how I do it, but I have everything in my head, who eats, who don't... with about 1000 Ts, that is a lot of info...

The only system I have is that I work on schedules... half of the babies fed one day and the next one it is the other one... depending where the vials are placed in the row, it means if they are eating or not... I feed the adults once a week... the juveniles twice a week...

The only things I keep up with on paper is the number of babies hatched in an eggsac... I do not even write the dates the eggsac was dropped... all by memory... humm, not always extremely accurate though!LOL (as you know!)...

Records of molts, forget it... sometimes I have 10 spiders molting in the same time one evening and the next evening it starts again... I remember when the females molted, as it is important to know when you attempt breeding...

As far as knowing which female laid eggs... everything is about where the spider is placed, not about the spider itself... if someone comes and messes my whole room... humm, I will be freaking out!

(you're kidding me, right??) errr...

You can remember when all your females molted...and when they dropped their eggs...eeee....
You had BETTER NOT forget your girlfriend's birthday, or anniversary, etc, etc. because I really don't think she'll accept that excuse! LOL

Actually, I tend to forget all mu friend's birthdays!LOL But not my girlfriend... my friends know that and they actually expect that from me!

When I say remember, I mean general idea... I never remember the exact date, but I remember the time period... just nough details for what I need...

I have a notebook in which I keep all my records. It was a great idea back in the day, but with so many critters it is becoming increasingly hard to find crucial dates. I really ought to either computerize or have seperate books for seperate classes of animals. Either that or go to a card system.

I used to have this very elaborate note pad in which I kept everything noted down... eventually, I found out I actually did not need all that info (even though it was interesting) and it became apsolutly impossible to keep up with writing everything with so many animals... I still have a full time job...

Well, I have some interest in the "interesting," since there are some potential scientific spin-offs from my observations. I occasionaly find myself looking back at my notes to see if patterns I think I have observed are supported by my previous observations.
