Doin' some late night herping

And I found two little guys that probably won't make it into these forums very often, so I thought I'd share:

Long-nosed snake (Rhinocheilus lecontei):

And a Variable Sand Snake (Chilomeniscus stramineus):

I wish I could have gotten a size comparison, but that sand snake was only about 6" long or so, and that's usually about their max (sometimes reaching 10"). The longnose is about 22" or so.

Cool little guys.

Thanks guys. I just got back from doing a little more herping tonight, and I found tons of stuff. I will post pictures in the morning. It was an awesome night.

I went out last night again, and this is what I found:

This is the prettiest long-nosed I have ever seen; sadly, the semi didn't think so. I watched it get run over right in front of me. :'(

We found three alive, but only two made it safely off the road.

We found 12 shovel-nosed total. Eight were dead and so was one threadsnake.

Here are three of the four (they are a pain to take pictures of):

This is the smallest threadsnake I have ever seen:

Another live one:

This was one huge glossy snake.

And my favorite, a sidewinder.

I had fun...

Thanks guys! Yeah, that Sidewinder was hard to get a picture of. He kept "sidewinding" away, lol. He was actually sidewinding in that picture.
