For Roy and Ian

Roy,

I send you a photo already.
But heck..I know you wouldn't mind seeing them again..lol

Here is what they have been doing for 4 good hours after I put the male into the female's cage.

I didn't want to disturb them too much so I only took one photo and continued with my cage cleaning.....

From 4:00am - 8:00am this morning I saw them doing the 'dance'

LOL
thanks!

Trevor
well they are all spoken for now at least.

I know that Ian wants 1.1 and Roy wants at least 1.2 and I want to keep a few females back.....

but I do have a male that has basically nothing to do right now other than eat and poop....and for me to enjoy..but other than that I am thinking of removing him from my collection since I don't need so many males...but I am just keeping him for bloodlines I guess....

Jeff,

what is that? LOL
all you have got to say is 'o man'?
hahah
you're a big snake guy! don't go over to Ian's place and mug his snake when I send it to him later on this year (if they did do it)

Simon, you might want to hold that spare male until you see what genders come out this year.. If you get all females, you might need that male to satisfy orders.
It is common to get uneven genders in rosy litters.
I've had entire litters of males, and entire litters of females... With only a few babies, it can easily go either way

Roy,

Yeah I agree with you.
With only 6 babies max a year it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Oh if I can get 6 females for this year that would be great!! (at least for me..lol)

that way I can keep 2.7 of them!!
muhahahahaah

and then in a few years time and produce lots of them out for sale...
we'll see what happens~~

I can't wait until the baby starts coming out~~

oh man, you gotta call me if you see she's gravid eh.

How long does it take to birth a litter? Do I have time to get there once she starts birthing ?

Simon's pics do NOT do these snakes any justice. They are absolutely amazing specimens.

Hi Christina! a litter of rosies is born usually in about an hour. I've watched the entire process and photographed some of it. It starts with contractions and "waves" of abdomen movement.
Eventually the tail starts to move from side to side and the babies are pushed out one at a time.
Mother rosies will typically move around while this is going on, and babies are typically dumped in different places in the cage as they move around.
It's very important to remove any water bowls, as mothers will accidentally dropped them in the water and they usually drown. I have a friend in Las Vegas that has had that happen a couple of times.
Here's a pic of the last baby of a litter coming out

Below a couple pics of my male Limburg albino Rosy, showing the bright orange and red eye, not found in the whitewaters, which have dark eyes

There's quite a story to me getting these.
They crossed North America three times in the dead of winter, were seized by the Cdn Government, sent to the Toronto zoo under temporary custody of the crown, then returned to USF&W in Atlanta GA, who inturn forwarded them back to the breeder in San Diego. (they were home for Christmas LOL)
A total of 3 CITES permits per produced for these, two from Washington DC and one from the Canadian government (to send them back), all simply because the original CITES simply missed getting stamped by USF&W in Atlanta, before coming to Toronto.(Delta Screwed up& boarded them too soon)
From the time I ordered them to the time I took legal custody was about one year...
Stuff like this is why I have no hair
Needless to say, It will be a happy day when I produce Limburgs... Hopefully in 05

Chris,

LOL...well I guess you better come and live with me for a while in Aug-Sept. Cause that is usually when they start 'pushing'

I don't think that by the time you get here to my place you'll be able to see the babies pop out. I haven't witnessed any boa giving birth before. Roy on the other hand have had so many litters of babies from boas I guess it's very common for him to see them give birth.

Roy,

Man sometimes customs really sucks.
But man at least they did get here in one piece and everything was alright. I guess in the end, it was nothing but A LOT OF HASSLE!

oh yeah I can't wait

I've been quite lucky at seeing my rosy boas give birth. There was only one last year when I was moving and when I picked up the cage I was like "whoa I missed one?" As it turns out there was seven little mexicans throughout the cage. I love these guys, I just wish it was easier to get different locales!

P.S I've got about 5 mid baja that are gravid, 2 anza , 1 matias, and 1 mexican this year, so it should be a fun summer. I promise to get some more pics up once school slows down a bit.

Ian

Ok -- I'm not much of a Rosy fan, but I have to say... Simon & Roy, those snakes rock!! Wow... VERY nice...
