15 Minute speed herping...

Thursday was payday. Thursday I bought a new digi...

Thursday was the day my girlfriend stopped being nice... LOL..

Anyhoo, I bought myself a new piece of herping gear. On my way home, I decided to test out the new rig on some quick herping before the sun was to be no more.

I took of to a lake that is about 2 miles from home. This is a great place for me to find Thamnophis and Masticophis, usually the first snakes I see are here. The rocky area is part of the 'Prescott Dells, which I made many warmer days home. I went camping a lot back there with a buddy of mine, went "rock-hopping" as we called it, until rich Californians made it home and not accessible....bastids. Home to many cool herps!

Also, this place is seriuosly loaded with Uros (Urosaurus ssp). During the warmer days, you can spot 20 of these guys in 10 minutes. I new I could find one of these guys, and they let you get close. Which is funny, as they will bob up and down to shiow that this is their territory...not like they are a match for a 6' foot white boy. These are one of my favorite common herps. These were so cool to me when I moved here in 89' that I could not get enough of the lil' "blue-bellies."

The pics are very blurry, compared to what you get before all the file transfers and formatting..blah blah blah.

It is a Power Shot A60, got it for under $200. Not a bad deal to me. I bought it at Wal-Mart, so I know if I have problems they will take it back no questions.

By the way folks, I will keep these AZ herping trips coming. No one should be without pics from this area of the world..just to beautiful.

It is about 3 hours from Mead. I am located in central Arizona, just abouts. This lake was made much the same, with the use of a dam. Many, if not all, of the man made lakes in this state are in these highly concentrated rocky granite pockets and dells, as they make a good resevior for holding water, for a limited time that is.

I will post other pictures soon, that more accuratlety describe the habitat around this area. The elevation is at ~1 mile..roughly an average of 5,200 feet around here. The hills and mountains top out over 7,000. Not to bad for a desert. I actually live in one of Americas largest National Forests.
