Opinions Please!

I just bought my first corn. It is a female Miami phase that is ready to breed....What do you suggest I mate her with to get some nice corns?

I would choose a snow because it will be a test of whether she is het for either amel or anery - both are common enough in the gene pool here that your chances are good that she is carrying one or the other. At least with a breeding to a snow, you will know for next year - to plan your breedings better. If you breed to a Miami type, you should get all Miami type (unless both parents are het for other genes).

If she is het for amel, bred to snow - you will produce half amels and half normals, both het for snow.

If she is het for anery, bred to snow, you will produce half anery and half normals both het for snow.

If she is het for both you will produce snows, anerys, amels and normals in approximately equal numbers.

A lot depends on what colors you like too - some people just don't like the red eyed morphs!

Best of luck,

mary v.

Complicated - sort of - but that is the fun part!! One of the neatest things about corns is all the colors and combinations - and just when the big breeders think they have it all figured out - some new confusing factors (like all the hypo variants) show up. Fun stuff,
