sizes of snakes in shoebox racks

hi, browsing through galleries and how to's it seems that a lot of racks are designed for the shoebox sized containers

how long can the snakes be kept in the shoebox containers?
they just seem sort of small to me, that is why I ask

Simple. Snakes can be kept in shoebox rubbermaids until they grow out of them. Just to correct you, the racks are not 'designed for the shoebox sized containers', they are designed for the snakes being put in the shoebox sized container. Some hatchling snakes require a smaller, tight environment to feel secure and begin feeding, hence the smaller containers.

My newborn cornsnakes lived in containers that were for food in the fridge. They were 2 inches high, 7 inches long, and 5 inches wide. VERY tiny. But every single snake I had hatch except 1 (1 out of 22) ate on the first try, FT. Of course a few weeks later they moved up into the world of shoeboxes.....but these small enclosures are really extremely helpful to any herper breeding.

alright, the reason I ask now is because I have one corn that is 17" and I"m expecting 3 more 15" corns and I think it's time to start working on a "bulk" holding facility and am wondering specifically how long corns can live in shoebox sized containers

For four snakes it wouldn't be worth building a rack that holds shoebox sized containers. I would build one that holds sweater boxes. But - are you planning on getting more after the new '3'? Because if not, building a rack to house only 4 snakes would probably be more trouble than its worth.

Go look in my gallery at my baby rack. Not hard to build, it all came from Wal-Mart except for the heat pads at the back.
Cheers,
Trevor
