How to make meds

I haven't spoken to my herp vet yet but while I'm waiting I took a look at a few herp med sites.

What confuses me is this: there are herp sites that sell meds (like Bean Farm's Flagyl pills). They come in 250 mg pills. I did the calculations and for a 5 g gecko I would need 1.25 g of medicine. That comes to 0.005 g of pill!

When all of these people are talking about how they dose their imported geckos, do they go to the vet to have him/her make the suspension or do they make it themselves? I would think the vet visits would get to be expensive if you do a lot of importing. Even if I were to use one pill for each treatment, the suspension volume would still be really large to get such a tiny dose.

The last time I brought a gecko in for parasites the vet told me I didn't really need to bring the gecko in the next time. I could just pick up the meds. I suppose that's what people do.

I need to ask my vet about this. I don't get it.

Metronidazole comes in a liquid form as well. I believe it's intended for IV, but can be administered orally. With the liquid form, I believe the suggested dose has a range of 75-200 mg/kg. This is a lot easier to measure in a syringe than crushing a tablet.
