Jake 'The Snake' Roberts
Just received this in my email a few minutes ago, and decided to pass it along ( i know there are a few wrestling fans here ).
Quote:
Jake "The Snake" Roberts appeared in court a few
days ago on charges of animal cruelty. It is alleged he
starved a Burmese python between August and
September of last year. He posted bond but will have
to reappear before magistrates again on March 11.
Roberts, who currently resides in Hertfordshire England,
denies any wrong doing.

I'm with you. I've never heard of a healthy burm that starved in 2 months.

I used to watch that REAL wrestling way back in the day with him, never enjoyed seeing him throw or toss his burms across the ring out of there bags, from there on I think it cruelty no matter what.

LOL..I hear that! My BP's last meal was in September!
I better clear that up..by "last" I mean, last meal before his yearly fast. He will resume eating in April or May. (just incase any animal cruelty police are browsing the site!)

I guess the whole story is fake because they even mention the burm's name was "damien". Now, Damien is no longer used by Jake and, in fact, Damien was a retic. Some years ago they arranged a plot where Earthquake was suposed to squash Damien (all make believe, of couse). From that moment on, Jake got another big snake "Lucifer". I don't know if that's the snake they are talking about.
Those were good old times...i lived in Toronto back then.

I used to watch it as well back when Jake the snake was still wrestling, I dont think what he did was cruel ..... stupid but not cruel. I didnt know him personally but from what I saw it always looked like he kept his animals fed always looked good and fat and I can not imagine it would have be too friendly if it was neglected or abused as he had it around alot of people with no bites or outward aggression, and I will go on and say like everyone else how do you starve a burm in 2 months?
Hopefully it will be resolved ans these ppl educated unfortunatly it is funny untill the people from the animal police knock on your door for the same thing.
Just my 2 cents
Great info Matt
Nice new Avatar too :medsly:

Perhaps you could send me the story you got where they mention the name 'Damien'.. If this Burms name IS Damien, is it not possible that he could have just named a new snake 'Damien'??
Also, for as far back as i can remember, the only LARGE constrictor Jake Roberts ever used was a Burm, i don't remember him ever bringing a Retic into the ring.. Perhaps we can get Chuck to post on this topic, im sure he will know if Jake ever used a Retic.. (I could be wrong, but im sure it was always a Burm)

Well, it's good to see that Jake is in court for something OTHER than drug posession. Good on 'im. Hope he's cleaning himself up for a return to the WWE....

Well I must admit I am still a huge wrastlin' fan. Jake was one of my favourites (and still is next to Undertaker). I don't like the idea of throwing snakes around either, and that's because I know how timid they are (for the most part). Damien was a burm and so was Lucifer. If I remember correctly, the original Damien (and this is going back to when he first showed up in the old WWF) was a Boa Constrictor. He must have upgraded to a burm when the checks came in more regularily. The only other snakes I remember him bringing to the ring was a big albino cobra of some sort. Can't be sure, I was pretty young at the time. It bit the Macho Man.
I read an interview alittle while ago on Jake. He's weird, in and out of recovery all the time. Not that that's a bad thing, but his attitude towards it seems bad. He hates WWE, and seems to have a big resentment against Vince, so I doubt we'll see him there again. He owns a wrestling school now in England.

Jake has had several burms over the years, he had a really cool one with a lot of red in its patterning at one point. He had an albino for a while. I've seen him posing for pictures with a large retic, but I never saw him bring it to the ring. I don't recall him ever having a boa, almost every news article written on him during the 80s incorrectly referred to his burms as boas.
The cobra was a nice touch... have to give it to Macho Man. What other wrestler has taken a bite from a cobra for the business?
