comp spam help!!
holy crap thats it..i cant take it anymore. Im pretty sure my computer is infected with a spam virus. Even if my explorer is not open i get 300+ adds in honestly 5 minutes. Ive tried deleting everything i suspect of causing this but i cant find it. My last resort is to ask someone, on the only forum im registred to, what the heck can i do. Do any of you have a really good ad blocker thats free? Im even getting pop-ups to stop pop ups. Man its anoying. Thanks.

I have Cox High Speed Internet and they have a free PopUp Blocker and it works wonders. Check with your internet provider, maybe they can help. I also use Spybot, which searches and destroys cookies and things that are placed on your computer while you are surfing. I also use Ad-Aware which also removes cookies, and Scumware, blocks highjacking attempts, etc. Check them out. Life is considerably better with them.

Try spyware blaster and spybot search and destroy. I use to have the same problem but these programs corrected the problem. I did try adaware but they also have spyware which will just bring different popups. Good Luck!

I use both Spybot and Ad-aware 6.0. I notice that Spybot is a far inferior product, as I can run Spybot and it will detect all spywares and pop-ups on my computer, deleting them. I will run Ad-aware right after, and it will find others that Spybot did not.

if you are running xp here's what you need to do go to start>run
type services.msi then scroll down to where it says messanger(this has nothing to do with msn messanger) double click on it change the setting from automatic to manual and apply. all better.
I also have adaware run automaticly on startup and I agree it is far better than spybot

Go to download.com and download popup stopper free edition, that works wonders when used along with Ad-Aware.

Ad-Aware has a plug-in you can download to turn off windows xp messenger(NOT CHAT MESSENGERS) that does the same thing. Derrick, I couldn't bring up the services.mci, any chance you typed it wrong? I'm running XP, just says cannot find path or some BS like that.

You do not even need a plug in, you can manually do it on your computer in 2 minutes.
