Waxy Monkey Frogs

I was just wondering if anyone is breeding these little gems in Canada? Although I am not much of a frog person, I absolutely love these guys. Definitely my favourite!

Which kind of waxy monkey? I'm guessing your talking about Phyllomedusa Sauvagei, this speices to my knowledge has not been bred in canada I had a pair, unfortunaly my male died from unknown causes, and I decided to part with my female. I did some research and could not find anyone who have bred these in canada. They are being bred in florida and warm areas of the states, where their natural habitat can be replicated outdoors. Here in canada we jsut havent found out how to replicate their natural environment for breeding in a captive setting. I'm sure we will soon tho. They are being sold cheaper and cheaper in the states and I think its only a matter of time before we start seeing them more commonly up here. I would really love to see P. bicolor in Canada. I keep the tiger legs right now P. hypochondrialis. I'm hoping to have sucess with them. I believe that someone has bred there in canada but the froglets didn't survive to adult hood.
If anyone knows anything about Phyllomedusa breeding in Canada I would love to hear about it!

Yup..... P. sauvagi. Sorry I should've specified. This is actually the only ssp. I have had any experience with. I've been wanting to get one of my own for a few years, but just don't have the space to devote to one right now, but at least I get to play with them at work P. bicolor would be awesome, I've never seen one in real life before. If I recall correctly though, I've seen them offered a few times in the CDN classifieds here on sSnakeSs though. Anyways, thanks for all the info!

Ben, I know Troy Mouck from Darwin's Oasis, and he is most certainly not insane. He probably has more knowledge in his little finger than you have in your entire body. Please don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. Hot rocks are terrible for SNAKES, yes. For lizards that don't have their belly in direct contact with the heat rock, they are not all that bad - but he did say that the heat PAD is the preferred method.

Im not saying that heat rocks are good or bad. I do not use one and I never have, but they have better temp controls on them than they used to and there are people who have used them with no ill effects. He did not say he used them, and I am sure he doesn't, but if you are going to quote someone, at least put it into context by keeping complete sentances so people who don't go looking for it assume that they use heat rocks.

By the way, the setups Darwins Oasis uses for their Red Eyed tree frogs and Waxy monkey frogs are quite amazing. I have never seem setups as well thought out as theirs.

Yeah man Troy is a good guy. Sure lots of people use them but there are plenty more who dont. And like Greg said, Troy has amazing set ups for his waxy monkeys and red eyes, not to mention great success in breeding and good caresheets.
