prettiest orange iggy i've ever seen

His name is Chip (I named him). He's about 4 1/2 feet and he's got a female called Lizzie who is about 3-3 1/2 feet she would be bigger if Radiated tortosies didn't used to share her enclosure that nipped part of her tail off weird how herbivorous animals want a nip once in a while lol. I feel srry for her. They live aat Crystal Gardens here's chip :medbigsmi

Actually tortoises arent totally herbivores, they LOVE meat. Mine would dig right into killed pinkies and crickets and worms, actually It kinda got me thinking that aybe they are somewhat scavangers of not too long dead corpses int he wild. Anyways sorry to go on about something totally off topic

ORANGE IGGYS

That's a gorgeous animal. I didn't realize that orange was a fairly common trait in Iguanas, but apparently it is. Does anyone know why they are orange? I know that some females can also turn orange so it can't be solely a hormonal thing. I adopted out a gorgeous orange female a few weeks ago who only turned that color after she laid her first set of eggs 4 years ago. My Iguana, L'il Jimmy, was rescued by me about 8 or 9 years ago and he was always orange, but at the time I thought that perhaps testosterone was the cause for it or else it could have been the fact that he was so ill and swollen with metabolic bone disease. Now I'm not so sure. I heard somewhere that it could be because of their origin, ie. Mexican.

Any ideas on this? It's something I've always wondered about.
