What kind of lacerta is it? Well, i'll assume it's a Lacerta lepidus (jewelled).
Lacertas look much alike tegus but usually stay a bit smaller. They are green with yellow, black and blue spots. Males have bigger heads than females and bigger bulk. They have a nasty bite but should calm down easily (females aren't easy to tame though), don't mess with the tail much because it breaks off quite often, though it grows back...
There are many around my area and sometimes i like to go on field herping looking around for some - biggest ones i ever found were freak sized males close to tegu size, but lenghts from 2 to 3 feet are more like it.
These guys eat meat (don't expect them to eat fruits). Many people say they do eat grapes, i never saw one eating that, but could be true... If your's is not a great eater here's a trick: find some snails (that's right) and give it to the lizard. Then, leave the room for a few minutes and Voila!! He should be feasting on the snails in no time.
Temperatures should be like those for an iguana, but these guys can take lower temps as well. Not many medium to big size lizards can take cold like lacertas.
