I can't find a #%$%^%&$ probe thermometer!

I went to canadian tire to find one of those thermometers that have a probe, because I only have the ones you stick on the tank for now, and want one that is more accurate., Anyway, they had the PROBE but it wasn't attached to anything, and it said it had to be attached to a multimeter, which doesn't measuree temprature.

Does anyone know the NAME of this thermometer? When I tried to explain it to the guy he told me to look in kitchen supplies! God this is frustrating.

Where did you buy yours, and what sections was it in? and what is it actually called?/

Please give me a hand here... I am at the end of my rope! lol

They are usually called indoor/outdoor thermometers. The Can. Tire stores around here don't have a very good selection of them. I found good ones at Home Depot or even Wal-mart.

My suggestion would be to buy a Heat Gun. There is a banner on this site for one that is $50. It's an awsome thermometer, it really has helped me allot in getting accurate tempatures. I can get accurate readings of the surface temp whenever I want instead of having to put the thermometer in the tank and then waiting 24 hours to get accurate readings.

If you don't want to spend $50, try Walmart, I saw a few in their Hardware section of the store when I was looking for a Thermometer / Hydrometer.

I got mine at a Home Hardware store. I called around and asked to find one....ask specifically for an indoor/outdoor thermometer with probe.

No, but I don't think that is exactly what Vengeance meant. I'm thinking he means maybe putting it in there inititally, it will take a little while for the reading on the thermometer to build up to the actual temperature. Like say you take your own body temperature with a digital mouth thermometer, you can watch the temperature building up and getting higher until it finally reaches the actual temperature, then it beeps. Sort of the same thing. It's not instantaneous - you don't stick the probe down and then have it instantly pick up the actual temperature, whilst with a temperature gun you would get it instantly.

I got my temp gun at radio shack for 30 USD when they were on sale i belive the price is back up to 50.

And my digi themometer you can get them at wal-mart, radio shack, home depot. Just like others have said ask for an indoor/outdoor themometer with a lead (or probe) depending on what they call it.

Yea that's what I meant, it isn't an instant reading. When I was useing one that didn't take instant readings I would usually leave it in the tank for 24 hours so I could see what my Max and Min temps would be over a 24 hour period. Now that I have the temp gun every couple hours or so I can check the entire surface area of the tank instead of being only able to check where the temp prob is currently.

Any indoor outdoor thermometer will do. They have them at Canadian Tire, Walmart, HomeHardware....any store in the world almost sells indoor outdoor thermometers. No they do not take 24 hours to give a reading.
