Butter worms, mealies, crikets, and silk worms

Hey

I was at the pet store today and i bought 2 butter worms for 50 cents each, is that a good price???cause my chameleon seems to love it, but he hates mealies, i dont know why, he just doesnt like it at all, he wont try silkworms either so i was wondering how i could get him to eat it. Uhhhh i was talking to the person that worked in the reptile department and he said that he can do me a deal 1000 cirkets for $28.00, i think its a little to high, i told him id think about it, just wondering what you think, and its for every 2 weeks. Can anyone give me a site where i can buy 100 criekts for a good price, and tell me about the shipping, thanks, cause the pet store is killing me, my friend that use to work there moved, so he doesnt give as much grrrrr o well please help

www.silkworms.ca Your one stop bug shop! Beyond the silkies, they've got the butterworms, waxies, crickets and the mealies. All for cheaper than those prices you've quoted in your thread, but you've got to buy in bulk.

I personally have not tried these people: http://www.canadianfeeders.com/ but they seem to have good prices as well. Again to get the good prices, you must buy 1000's of bugs at a time.

If you do not want to pay for shipping, which you will from these suppliers, or house/feed/maintain 1000's of bugs at a time, it looks like you will have to pay the higher prices for the convenience of buying only a 100 crickets a week. Honestly I have not bought feeder bugs in small quantities in just ages so I have no idea what the price is for a single cricket is these days.

You could always breed your own...

ya i was planning on getting large quantities around 1000, i dont mind keeping for them, ive been try to breed them and still working on it, you must have a good colony to get a good start, its really hard, but the taking care part is easy, at the pet store they cost 15 cents each, how much is shipping???

I pay $18.00 for shipping from Toronto to Ottawa for my weekly bugs orders. Since you are already in the area of the 2 suppliers I gave you, I would think shipping would be considerably cheaper, or they may even allow you to pick them up, thus saving that charge.

I haven't read enough information on the butterworms to give you a definative answer there. I think they are too fatty to be given as a staple diet, but I could be completely wrong. I use them as a treat when I can get them at all.

P.S. LMAO! Many years ago when I was buying crickets in small quantites, they were 5 cents a piece. Shows you how long it's been since I did that.

I don't see any crickets on silkworms.ca
As for silkworms, I still wouln't use it as my main food source. A cricket fed a good diet for your lizard species is still the best thing in my opinion.

Silkworms only eat mulbery leaves, so they do lack in certain elements that your crickets could have if you feed them the proper items.

Hey pcpc,
Do you also ship to Montreal?
I use 1000 crickets a week and am quite tired of having to always hassle my supplier to get them on time...
