Snake room updated - new rack systems

Well it has been a very busy week. I put together three new racks inspired by the Marcus Jayne Ball Python design, just scaled down to work for my colubrids, and it is working out great. There is a great heat and light gradient in this system. Cheap and easy to build. It is taking up much less space, wires are gone and now there is a pile of tanks in the corner.



Here's a corner shot of the room..



These are 33 gal. on their sides, The top one is for the Boa and the bottom one is for the Blood Python. The 10 gal. on the top shelf are for feeding. The rack on the right is the 10 unit built by Kelvin for some of his Ball Pythons.

Hey Weather1,

Thanks for the Kudos. The containers are from Sterilite , Model 1856, 18" wide, 24" long. You can get them at Walart for 5.43 each.

I have one more rack to build for Classic and will do the photo shoot on that build. Look for posting shortly.

What are you keeping in yours? Corns, milks?

Right now ...kings and corns. I built it mainly for the mid size kings (Chihuahua Mountain Kings, Black Mexis, Thayeri, and Desert, there is also an Amel, Okeetee, and Snow Corns, Prairie King and some juvi Kings, Albinos and Chocolate . The adult cal kings are in a different rack system getting ready for cooling. Next project... incubator..

you know I should rebuild some of my racks...I've been moving it a bit too much and now it's starting to wobble...lol...
so I am thinking of rebuilding one new rack taht could hold up to 30 adult corns~
but maybe later when I have more room...hahah

Looks a lot like my room. I have a lot of tanks laid on their sides so they are front opening. I find it works great. As for the racks I don't have them build yet but when I do they will look like yours.

I as well use the Sterilite model 1856 for all my colubrids. I have pyros from 24" to Sonoran gophers at 5' in this size box ( 28 quarts). In fact I got better results in temperment and feeding from my gophers in this set-up over the glass tanks they were in. They do make bigger and smaller sized boxes and will suit the needs of just about any snake, cept the real biggins'. In my opinion, the boxes keep them a bit less stressed and more like the natural confines of snakes. Being that pyros are sauxicolous, meaning they live most their life amongst rocks (usually rock piles and boulders) they have returned greatly into a natural, more or less sence of living. I only use glass tanks if I have a snake that does not stress easy and that I wish to display. Otherwise I get better results using a rack system with the Sterilite boxes.

Some folks use heat tape, I use ambient heat. The area in which I live in, leaves the room at 78-84° during the whole year, just about right for my colubrids.
Heat tape can be used at the back end of the rack running from the top to the bottom. There are many ways to use rack systems, just depends on how you plan designing it. And yes, the 28 quart sized Sterilites (Model 1856) can hold an adult corn, hide and water bowl easily.
