CO2 euthanasia

i couldnt get any frozen mice today so i picked up some live ones. whenever i feed live i usually just smack them in the head with something and toss em in the feeding tub, but i have some co2 cartidges for pellet guns and paintball guns. could i just puncture the cartridge and spray it all in a box of mice rather than the above method?

C02 Cartridges will do the job as well, although it can be a bit of a time puncturing them safely enough to do so. Pressurized cans blow up. I have some cartridges here as well, but refrained from using them due to the uncertainy on puncturing. As well as it well get very cold and burns your fingers I've been told.

Don't try to puncture a CO2 cartridge, cause you will just hurt yourself. Check out this link . Baking soda and vinegar will do the job.

If you use this method often it might be just as easy to rent a cylinder of the stuff cost me around $60 Australian for a years rental on a cylinder and about $20 to refill the thing (which lasts well over a year anyway). I have opened plenty of small canisters by knocking the led stop in with a hammer and nail. When you think about it whatever uses these canisters punctures them in exactly the same manner only a valve is used to control the flow of gas. I would say it is the force and impact needed to puncture the harder parts of the canister (or any canister) that would make this a hazard. You have to make sure the canister is secured though as when the gas expells they can sometimes become mobile (like a mini rocket). Yes they do get very cold and will freeze-burn and stick to bare skin.

Cool

yep ive punctured them before using gloves and thumb tacs (for un-related reasons.) renting a tank though does seem like a much more efficient and simple way of doing it though. thanx for the replies

Why pay all that money when you could build a little Co2 kill chamber? A little baking soda and some vinegar.
