Steve Leonard!! Ultimate *******???
I have just finished watching "Ultimate Killers" with Steve Leonard on Horizon. In the peticular show I was watching, he said you can buy the Ultimate Killer over the counter & they even hold shows where you can buy these "Man Eaters"... Guess what he was talking about... You guessed it, A Reticulated Python. He then interviewed one keeper who had a 22ft Retic who through a stupid mistake of his own, was bitten by his python & was constricted. He was lucky because he never feeds his snake alone. he then went on to say that these man eating pets kill a "STAGGERING" 1 person a year in the USA.
NO WONDER US HERPOTOLOGISTS HAVE A BAD NAME!!!

One a year, out of several hundred million people in the US? That's probably right up there statistically with people who run themselves over with their own cars or who don't heed the carny's advice to stay seated at all times when riding "The Scrambler" at the fair. I figure if someone is so stupid that they handle a snake large enough to kill them and they don't have help then maybe it's God's will. You know, clean up the gene pool a little. I don't think this sort of thing hurts herpers at all, it just gives the stupid the name they deserve. I don't feel any pity for someone who kills themself through an act of raw and profound stupidity, though I do sympathize with their families. How would you like to be the relative of someone who had an ironic, cartoonish death? The sky-diver who falls to his death, the rodeo clown the gets gored to death by a bull, the snake keeper who's killed and/or consumed by his snake... Just be thankfull you don't have to eulogize these people.

The one thing that really makes me sick is, The Idiot who gets tagged by his 150ft (Exaggeration) Burmese & then has the snake put down just because the owner smells of freshly killed rat. If you get tagged by your beloved "Pet" It's because you were careless, not the snake.

Exactly! Snakes don't kill people, stupid people get themselves killed. For some people it was just a matter of time before they die an hillarious death, if it wasn't a snake it would have been their pit bull or maybe their sports car.

Come on now leave the pits outta this. Pits r sweet dogs that get a bad rep from idiot owners. Cocker spaniels are the #1 bitting dogs believe it or not. Nothing is more loyal than a well treated pit.

I'm not picking on pitties at all, people just have to give each animal the respect it deserves. Horses have the potential to be way more dangerous than retics carrying pitbulls on their backs, the difference is that horse owners usually respect the size an strength of their beasts. I think what we have to realize is that there are no dangerous animals when you treat them with the respect and caution they require.

I have a friend who has a pit bull & he is a beautiful, well-tempered "Baby". I have on the other hand seem some really cute, cuddly looking small dogs who would have your hand off before looking at you. Look at the owners behaviour before going near thwe pet is my advice.
There is alot more people seriously injured by their horses each year than there has been by their reptiles.
I'm really beginning to hate natural history programs & documentaries on reptiles where the "Host is so poorly informed.
Mousekilla...Leave sports cars out of this...Lol.

I agree with you. The problem is that a mistreated "mean" chiuhuahua might give a child tetanus. A "mean" pitt can rip a child to shreds. I love all dogs. It's the owners I hate. Responsible pet owners always have to pay for the results of the irresponsible owners through bad press, and tighter controls. It should be easier with retics (and other giant snakes). Anecdotaly at least, it seems that the keeper is most often the person killed. I dont think the same is true of dogs.
The sad thing with dogs, is the potentially dangerous breeds attract the dangerous owners.

That's the great thing about potentially dangerous snakes is that they are far more likely to kill their owner if the owner is irresposible. You don't often hear of a retic owner being caught taking it for a walk with no leash.
