New to turtles

Hey
Im new to turtles, but i was wondering if there were drawf turtles that only grow up to 2-3 inchs??? if so where can you find these guys? and how much would the cost be around??? just wondering researching and i might wanna get one, i have a big tank, but i perfer drawf turtles if theres such a thing lol jsut thinkiing about it

the only turtles i know of even close to that small i think are most of the mud turtles. i think they average maybe 4-5 inches.

The smallest would be musk, mud, spotted or bog turtles.
Some musk and muds will stay under 5", while spotteds stay small as well but they are pretty pricey and are threatened species in much it's natural range. Then there's the bog which is the smalles, but pretty much impossible to get b/c they are endangered. You'd have to check local laws for keeping spotteds and bogs.

If you are interested in small turtles, try a muk or a mud turtle. They're cute litle bottom walkers.

Sorry, I just saw you're in Scarborough, Ont., which makes it illegal to keep spotted and common musk turtle, b/c they are native species. But there are many other musks and muds which you can choose from.

Muds are easy to keep and hardy. And only get have as big as slider...if that. I have three and would totally recommend them. Great little turtles!

Why can't you have them in Scarborough?? You're not supposed to have the painted turtle mentioned at the bottom of your posts..Why do you think you cant have muds?

So i thought that you cant have muds here, i read it wrong my bad. But i was at super pet and they werent selling there turtles, and i asked why cause they couldnt sell them......i was like why do you have them then, and then they didnt say anything, so ya......But if i want to get a mud where can i find it in scar

Here are the native turtles species of Ontario and you may not keep any of these turtles unless you get a special permit (which are hard to get):
Chelydra serpentina (Common Snapping Turtle)
Sternotherus odoratus (Common Musk Turtle)
Chrysemys picta marginata (Midland Painted Turtle)
Chrysemys picta belli (Western painted Turtle)
Graptemys geographica (Common Map Turtle)
Emydoidea blandingii (Blanding's Turtle)
Clemmys insculpta (Wood Turtle)
Clemmys guttata (Spotted Turtle)
Apalone spiniferus (Eastern Spiny Softshell)

You can keep everything else that is not native to Ontario. There are no native mud turtles in Ontario, and there are many different kinds of musk turtles that you are allowed to keep. Just not the common musk turtle (aka Stinkpot Turtle).

As for selling turtles. Turtles are usually imported from the US, and technically it is illegal to sell imported turtles and their offsprings. So, most businesses are not into selling turtles, usually private individuals. But some businesses will sell, but they keep quiet about it.

You'll have to look around for a private sale. I suggest you research the turtle you want before you start looking.
