Snakes alive, that's some service!

October 06 2003 at 02:34AM

Manila - A python named Samantha, a cockatoo and a cage of scorpions are not your typical churchgoers, but dozens of Roman Catholic devotees were allowed to bring their pets for blessing in a Manila church.

The annual ceremony commemorates St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. It coincided with the World Animal Day, celebrated by animal lovers worldwide.

Most of the congregation at the Remedios Church brought along domesticated pets like cats and dogs, but it was 5m-long Samantha that got the attention of churchgoers. The 210kg snake was carried up the aisle by three men and sprinkled with holy water by Father Francis Carey. - Sapa-AP

I find it hard to beleive that they allowed a snake in a Roman Catholic church & then blessed it. Is that not sacrilege to them? Whats the Pope think about this? Like I care LOL Mark I.

I've had snakes in church before. I didn't get struck by lightning or anything! LOL

Snakes are not sacrilege. The catholic church reconises them for what they are, an animal. they also reconise darwin's findings too. The whole garden of eden thing is in the first testiment (before christ) and you'll find the church pays more attention to the second testiment (the teachings of christ)

It's that time of year again, is it? My ex girlfriend (well not ex at the time) took her bearded dragons to the service and had them blessed. Seemed to work more like an exorcism though, she got rid of me
