Smile A wonderful little trip...

Today I finally found a great place to buy my herps! My mom heard about this place that sells captive bred saltwater fish and that they also do birds and reptiles. So we went to go check the place out and as it happens it is the same people that are sponsoring the Tinley Park Reptile expo here on Oct 11 & 12! It was amazing to see so many well cared for animals in a pet store and the selection! Even the staff are knowledgable! The only bad thing about the place is that it is good ways away from my house. I am just so excited to find this place. My sister even got 2 baby bearded dragons from them. Ok enough of my rambling. If anyone would like the info on them just PM me.

It's good that you found a respectable and responsible pet store! There are so many stories like "this place is horrible" and "never go to this place" etc that it's refreshing to hear about those that look after their animals and have knowledgable staff.

Be careful when purchasing herps from places that also sell birds. Many birds (regardless of origin) carry parasites and other disease that can seriously infect reptiles (as well as people). Motion of the birds wings can easily spread pathogens to other cages. Also watch fish..though nothing is going to jump out and fly....lol.....fish are notoroius sources of many parasites and you don't know exactly what goes on behind the scenes in terms of sanitation between animals.

Good point but a nice thing about the store is that it is a couple of stores just joined by a doorway. So there is a fish store, a bird store, and a reptile store. I am pretty sure many people have heard about the place but i don't want to post any names since I know the mods don't like that for liability reasons. NOt to mention they can't be too bad if they are one of 2 sponsoring the expo... could they?

Whether or not a petstore sponsors an expo wouldn't reflect too much on the way the store is maintained. Although, if they display mite ridden malnourished animals, it wouldn't be too good for their business.
