Internal Parasites
I have 2 leopard geckos that I'm taking care of for pres.nixon (Axel) and they have internal parasites... he already had one with internal parasites and then it spread to these 2 while he is out of town. So right now I'm trying to help out my friend Mike while Axel is gone to take care of the problem.
I have been using ParaZap ( www.parazap.com) for about a week, and I have been giving them a full syringe (about 3 cc) twice daily... they have gotten a bit fatter, but that might just be the powder in the medicine. Well, I brought them to the vet Wednesday and we gave me some Panacure which I have been using once a day about .1 cc or whetever it is per dosage... they have been doing much worse with this, and I'm wondering if I should put them back on the ParaZap?? Any and all information is appreciated. Thank you so much for your help.

Oh Man, well, I would recommend using both products. Parazap is an herbal thing-I believe. Panacur causes appetite loss and should rid the leos of the worms. I would consult the vet about using these both at the same time, but I don't think there should be any problems. Make sure they maintain their weight, and if they stop eating you might have to assist-feed them. Good luck, and let us know how things progress.

How big are the leos(weight) .1 every day for how many days??? It's my understanding for a 40 gram leo to have .1 givin 1 dose every week for at least 3 weeks or until the fecal comes back negative for worms. And just like samba said panacur is a appetite suppresent. So you should expect a little weight loss during panacur treatment, and up to 2-3 weeks after treatment.
sorry i'm not a big writer but i hope this helps.

They are about 30 grams each at the moment, and were about 45 - 50 grams before they started getting sick, I believe. But with the panacur treatment he only gave me one full syringe to use on both geckos. And I have only been using it for a few days and they are losing a bunch of weight. Just within the last day I noticed a ton of weight loss. I'm just scared they aren't doing too well and will die like the first one.
I'm thinking about using them both like Samba said... because ParaZap is also an apatite (sp?) stimulant and brings up their weight a little more, plus I haven't noticed any throwing up or anything with this medication and they have solid wastes. I'll see how much better they get when I run out of panacur, and I might just have to consult my veteranarian again. What do you think?

I treated all my leopard geckos on panacur. The way I used it was, give them a small dose for 5 days in a row, wait 10 days and give them 5 more days of panacure.
check the weight/dozage size the vet gave you.
My leos went without parasites for almost 2 years. Latley they got some more and I am going to loose a female because of that, she is really sick. Tried the panacur but didn't work this time.

I hate to say this, but your story sounds like what I went through with Darwin. Look, talk to you vet, and maybe he can do something about the weight loss. Tell him you are also using Parazap and see what more he can do for you. I hope these guys recover. Keep us updated and Good Luck!
