Cage Building Help

As alot of you know, I have been planning on building this cage for a long time now:

However, I have decided to make some modifications. Instead of 6 compartments, I'm looking at making it three. Two long ones, and one horizontal one. Or I've been thinking of making it four. One long one and keeping the three at the bottom. All depending on the snakes and/or lizards I decide on housing in it.

Anyways, my questions are about heating and also, what kind of material. I've been thinking of using melamin...

Definitely use Melamine. It's cheap, water resistant, and easy to work with. For heating, I'd suggest heat tape or light fixtures if you want to do wiring (a 40 watt light bulb can heat an enclosure well into the 80s), or use heat pads if you don't want to do wiring.
