Heating?
Alrighty, when I joined this list a little while ago, I was under the impression that most people heat their reptile enclosures with heat lamps. But after reading and readin I see that is definately not the case. So, in building my new enclosures I would like to know all my options for heating. I obviously know the heat lamps.
I've read you people talking about heat tape and rope and everything. I have no idea what all this stuff is and where I can get it.
For example, if I want to make an enclosure and have the lighting like this:
http://gallery.****************/data/15797pic11.jpg
Those lights aren't heat lights. Or I'm thinking of just using florescent lights. (If you can't see the image or anything, it could be because it's from a kings****.com area. But anyways, they aren't heated lights.
So I guess my question is what are my options for heating my enclosures?
Jenn

Well i got smart and decide that on top of using a heat lamp on top of the tank if i put the glass tank over the air duct that it would provide undertank heating lol and the way i figured it was that my room was hot enough from the lights so why add more when you can use it for undertank heating.

HAHA! OMG I did the same thing! Montey's right over my vent. In the winter she's all nice and warm. And in the summer, the heat lamp is completely enough.

Heat tape is a plastic strip that has wires going across it. you can get prewired versions of heat tape too, hagen makes one in 3 different sizes.

Oh man, this is sounding like a broken record... but here goes:
It all depends on WHAT ANIMAL you are trying to house. Not all reptiles were created equal. Actually, they weren't created at all. They've evolved for millions of years to exploit specific niches. If you want to have us tell you how to create that niche, then tell us the animal you are trying to house.

I said Pythons and Boas, if you want even more specific I'm thinking Ball Pythons, Children's Pythons and Brazilian Rainbow Boas.

No probs.
For all those snakes, I'd use heat tape and a proper thermostat (Helix). Its the only way to go. Especially if you're going to have more than one.

Hey Jeff, How do you know they weren't created? How can you be so sure they evolved? Were you there?

Frankly it doesn't matter if they evolved or were created Tai Pan. Either way, each species is on this earth to fit in a specific area of enviroment, and knowing such, people must create enclosures to suit their specific needs.
