Feeding the Crested

I am rather new to herps and have just acquired a Crested about 2 weeks ago.

I find it difficult to determine whether he eats or not. It's a baby about 3 inches long.

He doesn't look skinny and the only food I know for sure that he gets is the baby food he licks off my finger every night. I leave baby food in the cage all the time. I tried crickets but he doesn't go for them.

I've heard many people have the same experience where it's difficult to say whether they eat or not.

What was your experience?

Thanks,

Quade

I have two small ones about the same size as you, they take their crickets and I'm not sure if they eat the baby food or not that I leave in there. From what I was told you will pretty much never see your crested eat.

Don't know if this helped at all

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your reply. Just wondering, how active are yours?

I know they are supposed to be active at night, but even with a red light I don't see him move around too much.

Also, do you actually see yours hunting the criks?

How big are the criks that you feed?

Thanks again,

Quade

A good trick for checking baby food intake is to spread it out in a thin layer, it will make it easier to see if your crested is actually eating it.

As for the crickets, you should be feeding your crested crix that are about as long as the width of it's head.

Hope this helps
