egyptian spiny mice

i was wondering if these guys are any good for feeding to snakes?
has anyone here ever fed them to snakes?

i can get a really good deal on them. 99 cents a peice for adults
so i was wondering if i should go for it??

Wow that's crazy cheap... they usually go for $15/ea. Anyhoo... I wouldn't recommend these guys as feeders. They are extremely high in fat and I would be concerned with your snake becoming hooked on these as well. Availability may nto always be there for you, and they do not produce like mice or rats. Typically they are said to produce 1-3 babies every 6 months, and this has been my experience as well with the exception of one pair, which produced 5 litters continuously, with one litter being of 4 babies! Anyways, asides from the cost you can get them for, I can't see any reason you would want to use these little monkeys as feeders

Thanx for the reply Linds, yeah it is really cheap what i can get them for and the guy has id say 5-600 of the things, and says he always has them. but someone messaged me and said that their hair is almost like quills and wouldnt be good to feed to a snake.
make any sense to you??

a friend of mine fed it one of those when it died, but for some reason the snake ate it from its tail and it choked.

Choked, eh? I've heard of the very odd occurrence of snakes choking on the fur of their prey... typically rats... the quill-type coat of spiny mice isn't that rigid, nothing even comparable to a hedgehog, however I suppose it would be better to be safe than sorry... if all of the above points weren't enough to deter you as using them as feeders

I was told that they are called spinny mice for a good reason.

My knowledge has driven me away from using them as feeders cause apparently if the snake has to regurgitate the mouse for any reason the spine of the snake will get stuck in the snake and could kill the snake.

kinda like the way an arrow is shapped to go in, but pulling it out will only do WAY more dammage.

basically, NOT RECOMMENDED. They are cheap by my place too. However I'm not taking the risk.
