Squeak

Well, I had my ball python out today. Very curious little thing. It adjusted it's jaws in front of my face and everything looked very nice and clean.

One thing though, about 4 minutes after it adjusted it's jaws I heard a squeaking sound and I think it came from the python, but I am not totally sure. Is this an early sign of a resp? If so, it is the only sign I have seen. Her cage is plenty humid and warm enough, she is eating great and there is no excess musus whatsoever in her mouth so I don't think it's a R.I. but I need other's opinions. This is the only time i've heard it, and after I heard the squeak I continued to handle her for another 15 minutes because she doesn't seem stressed by being handled at all and I didn't hear it again.

I dunno if this will help you but sometimes my male cornsnake makes a noise almost like a little mini sneeze.

At first I figured whatever its nothing, the second and third time though I got worried. But the I noticed that this seemed to go hand in hand with his sheds. And never unless he was about to shed. So I think he gets a little "stuffy" in his old skin and his nostrils might be slightly dry or clogged during a shed. Or whistling because dry pieces of skin in his nostrils are being "blown" when he breaths. None of my other snakes get it, but he does each shed.

Maybe thats whats going on with yours???

It's possible. I don't see any pink tint on the belly or anything though. I don't think it's anything to worry about because it doesn't wheeze. It honestly has me stumped to what it could be. I'll keep an eye on it and hope i'm right.

I really dont think it is a sign of URS cause if it is she would do it more often maybee it wasnt even the snake but i wouldnt know cause i wasn't there...who knows what it could have been im sry that i cannot help u but i dont think u have ne thing to worry about

My friends Regius does the same thing! Ive heard him do it twice. I have NO idea what its from. Not a RI tho. RI's sound like a giant snake sneeze/wheeze. Think of someone with a really bad cold taking a deep breath, thats what RI's sound like (When mine used to have it anyway). If it doesnt open its mouth ur fine. Good luck! Just a thought, maybe it was opening its mouth and the jaw bone joint creeked kinda like a door? Lol i dk.

Do you have aspen beding in your cage , if you do the snake can eat it and get breathing problems I.E. the sound.

What conditions are you keeping your snakes enclosure at? You just say plenty humid and warm, but didn't give any actual figures. Is it a distinct squeak or is it more of a short whistle? This is very close to resembling the same pre-shed whistle that Marisa mentioned. Sometimes snakes will make a "stress whistle"... I have one snake that routinely does this when being handled.

Ingesting aspen shavings will cause impaction, not respiratory problems

90 hot spot, 74 ambient, 60 humidity. It's a pre shed whistle for sure, Phantom(his name now) has a pink tinted belly. It was stark white before but now it's very light pink. It's not R.I. because I took it to a local zoologist (Darren Boyd) and he said it's noting to worry about, he has done it once for me and once while being sexed by Darren, and now that the belly is pinkish it's definitely a pre-shed whistle type thing.

My snakle eat aspen beding ounce took to the vet and he said it cloged its Jacobs Organ. Not that i dont believe you and all just my own experience.

I refer to my snakes' sqweek as a whistling boogie type sound. I was all concerned and took her in for checkups and got her treated for a RI just in case. After a month she still occasionally makes the noise and she had no RI. I have noticecd that mine will make it if she goes in her water bowl sometimes. I think she just simple has water up her nose.
