Best way to keep crix

Hey all. I have been buying 20 large crix every other day from petsmart for about a year now. I really dont wanna do it anymore. I've been thinking about buying them in bulk and breeding them in my garage but my parents won't let me (I'm 14). I asked if I could keep them outside the house and they said no because it attracts the spiders. Anyway, any suggestions as to what I might do? Thanks all.

Is buying them in bulk and keeping them in a critter keeper or similar enclosure an option? I don't blame your parents for not wanting you to breed crix, they get everywhere, however you don't have the same scale of escapees simply keeping them. I only buy crickets every few weeks, and house them in a critter keeper for the duration. I keep them on pine shavings and make sure they have plenty of veggies and grains available to eat as well.

You could keep them and breed them without you folks even knowing. Just keep them in a long, flat tupperware container under your bed.

Baby crickets are impossible to keep contained. There will always be some escapees, as they can get through any size holes, no matter how fine you think the mesh or holes are. The smaller they are th ebetter the climb as well. You would have an especially high number of escapees if they were to be kept in a shallow bin, such as an underbed unit. For arguements sake, lets say they couldn't escape, you would still have an awful lot of sound on your hands. A few crickets are loud, a whole colony will echo. Not recommended if you want to keep them secret from anyone.

Noway to keep crickets in a secret place lol...they will do their best to be heard! lol!... I breed crix 3 yrs now and i keep them in very tall plastic containers. Other way they will surely escape. I have around 2000 now, i had 5000 but i had a bad winter and they didn't produce much offsprings. I have 2-3 fugitives per month. They can maintained easily but as for breeding you have to do some things in order to increase their numbers. If you want to try to breed them, be careful because they could drown on standing water. I would advise you first to learn some critical things about breeding crickets and then try convince your parents that you are capable of maintaining crickets with no or little fugitives from time to time. After all keeping them in the garage should not disturb them at all. Well, whatever you do, have a good luck. If you want a hand and tips on breeding crickets i am offering to help you with everything i know.
