New cages (finally)...

All the Rainbows are moving into new cages this year. Finally got the template done tonight (sort of). Its 24W x 12H x 48L. Just like the old ones, but better. Only problem is, now I have to build 17 more of the damn things!!! Time to quit my job I guess! Ha ha! The paint is going to be cool too. It an under-water epoxy that divers use to paint things like aquariums for whales and stuff!! Better be water-proof I guess!!

The bottom cage is a template for my male Jungle Carpets. Its 24W x 24H x 32L. I like it better than the big cages that the females are in (24W x 16H x 48L). I'll post more pics when they are done and painted (around 2004? ha ha).

That means a lot, 'cause I saw your cages last week, and they look dope!!

I'm just going to use sliding glass. I'll go downstairs and take a pic of the old cage to give you an idea. It just runs on plastic tracks and you just cut the glass to fit it. Piece of cake!

I don't have room to have "doors" on my cages actually swing open. So I just use sliding glass.

I agree plastic tracks are the best.. nice cages Jeff! though the old ones looked a little grimey! lol but brbs need high humidity so i guess wet newpapers never look attractive! hehehe Great job on the new cages man! i like the top one to! great job!

The cage looks great, but it sounds like you need to get an assembly line going.

I'd be very interested in the type of paint you are using. An underwater nontoxic epoxy? That sounds perfect. Have you got a brand or product name?

I JUST cleaned those cages on Saturday too!! It takes about 48 hours for them to look grimy! Especially at this time of year when I have the humidity at 90% and the temperatures pretty high.

Its called "Aquatepoxy". Its made by the American Chemical Corp. and comes in two parts (A and B) with the second part being a catalyst.

Where do you get this paint? How much does it cost. Sounds pretty good for protecting wood. On another note:

The plastic tracks work great and are cheap. If you are using bigger openings (ie 6'W X 3'H) you' might want to look into the ball bearing slide aluminum tracks. They slide a lot easier, especially when dealing with bigger pieces of glass. One other advantage on the plastic tracks, is there isn't as big of a gap between the glass in the tracks, making it less likely for animals, or feeders to escape

That stuff will be slick (cool, rad,boffo, insert vernacular of your youth ) for your BRB cages.

Did you get that in Canada or did you order it from the States? All the sites I've found so far are in the states.

Ha ha. I got a guy! He GAVE me a bunch. I think he got it from the Vancouver Aquarium or something. I didn't ask. I just made a "yoink" sound and snatched it!! Heh heh.

Its cheap???? WHERE?????????????? I'm paying $1 a foot at the lumber store (that includes both top and bottom tracking). I need over 200 feet of the stuff!!! That's not cheap!! Ha ha, at least not on my salary!! But if you got a "source", please let me know!!!
