Living Gems Reptiles is pleased to finally profile the babies from its 2018 “G” litter.

Born on September 16, 2018 to Scarface (a July 2008 high-orange male with almost perfect side crescents)…

…this litter represents the second pairing of these two animals. Their last litter in 2016 was stunning, among other animals producing this holdback:



The babies in this litter took a bit to develop, but then quickly displayed the line’s past promise. In addition to good color, they have very consistent side crescents, with many having fat ones as well. The litter was extremely female heavy at nine girls to three boys, so though I have already sexed twice, I will probably check again one last time to be sure.

All are now well-tested at a year and a half old, with numerous successful meals and sheds. As has been outlined in previous posts, all of these babies come from a disease-tested facility.

As with all LGR litters, we’ve done dozens of handling sessions for each baby, part of our commitment to start acclimating them to humans.

Over the following posts, please find a short profile of every baby in the litter. For each, a short description is provided, noting any behavioral or physical quirks, along with a selection of photos. For dorsal chains, “short” means two to three linked spots, and “long” mean four or more. Please note the term “holdback” means we are keeping the baby as a future breeder. Note we have not chosen all holdbacks yet for this litter.

This little lady has vivid color, large crowded dorsals with minor chaining, and thick side crescents.

As of early May’s weigh-in, this little gem measured 140 grams.

This young lass has decent color, large crowded dorsals with minor chaining, and deep but thin side crescents. She had messed her drawer with a shed and a “gift,” and showed great, ladylike restraint with my hand when I accidentally knocked her over.

As of early May’s weigh-in, this little gem measured 116 grams.

This winsome girl has good color and impressive dorsal chaining. Her side crescents, however, really knock it out of the park – almost all fat and deep, and many suggestive of bullseyes like her mom.

This young lass has vivid to good color, a catchy “rubbing” dorsal pattern with minimal chaining, and thick deep side crescents. She was a sweetheart when I had to dislodge her to remove her shed during the appraisal process.

This little man is another pick that has it all: vivid color, excellent dorsals with minor chaining, and thick rich side crescents. He was highly interested in me during the writeup process, possibly because I stole his water bowl to clean it.

This intriguing boy has an unusual dual color scheme, with a dark red background and bright orange dorsals. He has several small dorsals in his neck area, and some shorter chains father down his body. He has his line’s prized side crescents. Possible holdback, if I keep a male this time.
