Probe placement

I have an overhead basking bulb and an overhead ceramic heater. What is the best location for the thermostat probes?

Thanks

Re: Probe placement

For my snakes, I put the probe a couple inches below the heat source. This was a level my snakes could climb up to for basking and had hides directly below. The hides had thermal mass so the snakes don't have to hide out and still stay warm. For my gargoyle gecko, I put the probe a little lower & closer to the level she prefers to hang out.

Re: Probe placement

I put the probes directly below the lamp, about 3-4" above the substrate.

I then check surface and ambient temps and adjust the thermostat accordingly.
