Snake identification please

Found two of these in the backyard, please help us identify thanks

Location is a must when asking for ID. Closer pictures would also help, most specifically of the head. Quite a shame that people kill first and ask later.

I would expect to see alive animals on a reptile forum if no warning is present, but it would be unfair of me to assume visitors would think the same and it's usually people that kill the animals. My mistake.

Can't help with an exact ID without better pictures but it looks like a harmless western rat snake. Hopefully your cats are indoor cats so they don't have the opportunity to do this regularly to local wildlife, and I am also hopeful that another member may be able to help with the pictures provided if you don't have more.

Kind of tough for me to tell because I'm not from the area and since they are fairly decayed. However, I know that Rough Earth Snakes and Dekay's Brown Snakes are native to that area, and that's what they appear to be, in my opinion. Both nonvenomous, fossorial species.

My cats are in/outdoor cats, there's a cat door. They go where they please
