Enclosure for future Carpet

Finally got this bad boy home after many days of trial-and-error trying to go over and get it! The seller was really cool and eventually just came and dropped it off for me after all the times life forced me to reschedule.
It was originally for his Green Tree Frogs but he was moving soon and was planning to build a bigger, separate place for his froggies, so he just had to get rid of this one.

An unexpected bonus was that he brought the thing here with everything still inside it. Didn't see that coming-- the picture I saw of it was bare, so I thought it was just gonna be the cage. I definitely appreciate all the extra decorative plants, logs and things!
Helps my wallet so I don't have to buy quite as many things for this cage as I had to do for Qizil especially, and Mopani too since the stuff he came with was pretty much bare bones.

If any of you curious folks out there want some more close-ups I'll get more. But I will definitely update when this officially gets set up for my Carpet.

That likely won't be a while though, since my poor little sick man Scout is still kicking and his cage is in the place the Carpet will eventually go.

Either way I am psyched! This cage is awesome!

That's a great enclosure for a carpet, as you know each snake has there own personality and although all semi-arboreal some carpets enjoy climbing more than others. If the one you get is one of the ones that loves climbing he will be in paradise lol

I love spoiling my animals so either way, the Carpet is gonna have one heck of a setup in there, heh!

Nothing wrong with spoiling your animals, I treat all animals the best I can as well. Whenever you pick a breeder make sure you ask him which babies seem more incline to climb being that your tank has more room upwards. I you need any advice on breeders or raising your baby just let me know be glad to help.

Thanks a bunch for that, I'll keep that in mind! I do plan on going to a Reptile Expo to get my Carpet whenever that time arises, but I will be sure to ask them that along with which ones are "less nippy" XD

Out of what you know so far though, what breeders-- if you'd know that-- GO to Reptile Expos? I do remember I saw at least one or two booths that had Carpets when I went to get Qizil the first time, but they didn't have nothing BUT Carpets. They had the big 'ole ones too.
Also, since I would be looking for an Irian Jaya, are you aware of any that breed them-- either specifically or along with the other Subspecies?
If I for whatever reason won't be able to go to a Reptile Expo I'll be more than willing to order online, but I am hoping to find my girl at a Reptile Expo!

Carpets aren't " nippy " although captive bred they are still wild animals cause captive bred is different than domesticated. So they live by the anything bigger than me will eat me motto in short they are scared and Carpets won't curl up and die like other species they go down swinging. You just have to take the time time to handle them properly until they realize your not a threat. The time that takes varies but I've seen it done it as little as a week in some cases. A show is a good place to get a snake cause you can handle them and see its siblings. IJ's are very nice carpets but I love them all lol. I bred Carpets in the 90's and own a bunch now as well they are my favorite species of snake for sure. Anything else you ever need just let me know pal!

Hehe thanks! I am aware they are not "inherantly nippy" as every snake is different. I am in full agreement that they are biting in defense mode and I just need to help them learn that I'm not gonna eat and/or squish them!

Hehe I just have read around a lot of "mixed" ideas that either they aren't nippy, or are "nippy" or aka crazy bitey. The one thing that I definitely didn't agree with was the whole "every Carpet is gonna bite like crazy" thing. Like, just labelling the whole species as biters. Anything with a mouth and teeth can bite, seriosuly. X'D So again, I just banked on the "they are young and scared so I just have to somehow find one that is a bit chill already" and teach them to eventually learn I am not a giant killer evil thing.

To say carpets are not nippy is as wrong as blanket saying they are. Some are incredibly defensive and 'nippy' even generations into captive breeding, and yes absolutely some aren't.

My IJ has never ever even when signs of striking, never nipped, never been remotely defensive. But I know if 2 adult carpets that are absolute pychos - almost impossible to handle still even at 3 yo.

I absolutely agree that very few snakes are aggressive and it is more often defensive but to say to a potential new carpet owner they're not nippy is a little misleading imo.

Ok hello all! Got a slight update about this cage here~ !

It has not yet been set up at all because there has not been a good time that my Dad can get it up here. Scout is...Unfortunately, he has passed on to fluff heaven, so now the space is open. Dad just...Hasn't gotten it up yet. X'D

But after lots of careful consideration over the species and my capability of handling "larger" snakes it actually appears I will likely be getting a subspecies of Rat snake-- whom are also considered semi-arboreal-- instead of an IJ Carpet. I did read that most rats-- especially the bigger ones-- do tend to get around the same LENGTH as IJs, but as far as I saw through my ridiculous amount of research it seems that the rats stay a good deal leaner and thinner than the IJs.

I also did see that compared to other Carpet Pythons, the Irian Jayas do stay on the thinner side too, but considering I have tiny little freaking stick arms I am afraid I would still not quite have enough strength to keep them safely held even with proper handling and whatnot. I just fear I do not have enough strength in my arms to carry them when they get that long and thicken out.

So this cage is likely gonna wind up for a pretty rat snake species I will eventually get instead~
