Wild caught treatment?

I'm going to be eventually getting a male to breed my female Florida Banded Water snake with, and I have a few questions.
1. Should I treat him for internal parasites myself? Since he'd be a wild caught animal I understand that he may have a heavy parasite load. So I'm unsure if I should just treat him for them or not. If so, where would I get the meds from? Also I'm wondering if I should treat my female as well. The guy I got her from said she was treated, but I'm not one to just go off the seller's word.
2. Should I take him to the vet? The closest vet I'd take him to is an hour away. I was wondering if it would even be worth the trip if he doesn't appear to have any health issues. Thanks!

Re: Wild caught treatment?

Send a stool sample in to check for parasites, that's what I do, my vet is really far away as well so I only send in a stool sample unless I suspect other issues. Ended up having to treat about half of my wild-caught additions for worms.

Keep a REALLY close eye on the kingsnake/fauna classifieds page. I promise you that someone somewhere is breeding them. If you just type in Nerodia into facebook there are 3 groups one with 100 members, another with several thousand members and another with a few hundred members. If no one in that group is breeding these things I'd be REALLY surprised.
